Northampton Town (A) League One, 10th Sept 3pm
A testing week for us, starting with a visit to Coventry City's spiritual home at the Sixfields stadium in Northampton. Newly promoted from League Two, Northampton are on a bit of a run - although they only got their first win of the season last weekend that result was their 30th unbeaten League game on the trot. That win against MK Dons followed the pattern of our game against Bury with the Cobblers 3-0 up at half time, but they handled the 2nd half better, winning 3-2. Town's current form:
16 Aug Oldham Athletic (A) League One, Drew 0-0
20 Aug AFC Wimbledon (H) League One, Drew 0-0
23 Aug West Bromwich Albion (H) EFL Cup, Drew 2-2 (Won 4-3 on penalties  )
27 Aug Coventry City (A) League One, Drew 1-1
30 Aug Wycombe Wanderers (H) EFL Trophy, Lost 0-3
4 Sep MK Dons (H) League One, Won 3-2
It is to be hoped that Town's players will have their minds elsewhere.....their reward for overcoming the Baggies in the League Cup is a home tie with Manchester United in a couple of weeks.
Judging by the response to the Amadou Bakayoko thread on the AAW board, Jon Whitney could earn himself some brownie points by starting the young man - our international travellers may well benefit from a bit of bench warming anyway! On the subject of international travellers, congratulations are in order for Neil Etheridge who saved a last-minute penalty (and the rebound) for the Philippines in their 2-1 win - well done that man!
Other players are back in contention after injury meaning that Whitney has a full squad available - it's been some time since we were able to say that. It's about time that the Cobblers lost a League One game, and I'll go for a 1-2 away win for the rejuvenated Saddlers with Bakayoko and Morris on the scoresheet.

Re: Northampton Town (A) League One, 10th Sept 3pm
Good preview, as aways, and I agree. We should be sneaking something at Sixfields.
Watched their victory over the Franchise, and whilst they were useful, they have weaknesses too. However, they were missing two regular starters, so that may make them a more difficult prospect on Saturday.
I hope Whitney was watching Downing get bullied by Alex Revell, and watching it prompts him to select our most physical centre-half paring. Which I'd say is Preston and Toner. And I'd have Toner man-marking Revell.
A fully fit squad is exciting, mind when I try to make an XI from it I come up with different personel each time. Love to see Moussa in and improving on his form, but can you leave Makris out after he made two against Bury? And Bakayoko couldn't really be pushing any harder for a start up top.
Think I'd be going
And most likely looking for a score draw.

Can't believe so few posts about this exciting fixture (full squad, three internationals to call on and several forwards in good form :D ) up against a team unbeaten in umpteen league games - especially after Welshie's usual stringent and insightful analysis :D .
And, for once I'll be there! :D
I also watched the Cobblers against MKD and was a little bit concerned: MKD reminded me of Walsall with their "get it down, pass and play" style. The result was, they went three down! OK, they did pull two back but, ironically, they did so with more "direct" moves and, overall, could easily have leaked more goals. Northampton looked quite dangerous, being a little more direct ("looking forward") and playing some decent football, with a big fella up top to take advantage. Interestingly, I also watched Sheff U against Gills and thought neither of them was as good as Northampton or MKD. Food for thought.
I am a rubbish predictor and incapable of forecasting a Walsall defeat, so I'll go for 10 - 1 to us, with all the outfield players scoring; theirs, an own goal by Etheridge who thinks he hears the whistle for full time and idly back-heels the ball into the net. He is wrong. It is a wolf-whistle from the crowd directed at the female linesman (the perpetrator is, of course, arrested, banned from football matches for life and sentenced to watch Wolves for 6 years as they don't count as football matches).

Hoping for a few to travel for this.
Proper selection headache for JW in the final third of the pitch! I just wanna see some goals!
2-2 and I'll be happy!

Northampton have made a good start to the season. I Am struggling to call this one because we have been a bit hit and miss ourselves. But on current form I will go for a 3-2 to them :|

O'Connor out injured still so I would go with Preston next to toner instead of McCarthy who has been quite poor at CB recently, he seemingly can't win a header to save his life.

Think you are being too kind to us Chunkster my friend, I would think 3-1 to them would be more appropriate.
Whilst my heart wishes for a result, reality kicks in, and it must be accepted that another defeat is on the cards until we become a 'team'.

2-1 defeat.
Bury comeback has imo knocked the stuffing out of this team and management so I think wins are going to be very hard to come by in next few weeks unless something changes.....
Hope I'm wrong.

The Cobblers v The Saddlers.
I think they should play with a retro style leather football.

We are usually quite good at ending long unbeaten runs so I am optimistic.....a win for us it is then.

Strange team selection!
No ozzie, florent, o'connor and I thought all the injuries were cleared up?. Plus simeon, markis and mousa on the bench.

Team is in....
Well as I thought Whitney has played the Simeon is jet lagged card and is giving Bakayoko a well overdue start...
Midfield still looks a mess....thought Osbourne was fit for this? Kinsella ahead of Dobson in pecking order now. Know little of Kouyhar...is he really ready to play in league one and make an impact?
Bench at least has some good attacking potential if things aren't going well.

Moussa just can't get fit it seems, in fairness the other two have been on planes for most of the past two weeks so I can understand that.
I feel though to pick up away points and wins the team is going to need Osbourne and Chambers fit and playing together especially with the CBs being inexperienced.

Reserves get a workout in the League then?
Not a good omen, relegation zone beckons it would appear, Whitney does seem to make some strange decisions.
He's toying with the squads format and can't seem to make up his mind, pro footballers should be able to take international duties, and the travel involved, in their stride........IF they were fit.
Now watch us beat 'em!
