Is that 1,022 a record?

Apparently we had 1,762 in November 2012 for a game against Luton Town, so yes, it does look like a record.

It's probably accurate not much reason to lie definitely to over egg it as it would cost the club money in tax and we all know we don't like spending money if we don't have to.
As for the game good result hope it breeds confidence, I'm just waiting for JW to really shoot himself in the foot and be critical of the people who didn't attend he's daft enough.

Our 4th goal was scored by Kieron Morris, incidentally.
5th goal was Maz Kouhyar, who was then subbed......Ginnelly takes his place.

Dingles now 2-1 down at mighty Chesterfield (85 min) :D
And in our group, Sheffield Utd 0 Leicester City juniors 0 (87 min) Looks like penalties there.....
Amadou Bakayoko is man of the match, and Walsall get a first yellow card in the 90th minute!!

Penalties and the loser still gets a point for some odd reason.

Because at 90 minutes they would have got a point each - the penalty win just adds another point for "winning".

Re: Grimsby Town (H) Checkatrade Trophy 30 Aug 7.45pm
Right then so only a few under 23 teams have won after 90 mins. They clearly ain't good enough to compete? Part of me thought at the time that the likes of Man United stayed well away from this due to the risk of effectively being shown up by AFC wimbledon reserves - See Swansea.

Looking forward to the next game in this fascinating competition!
As we march on to Wembley.
When was the last time the beloved Saddlers scored 5?
Looks like Leics are the team to beat.
Love the group concept.

Good to see a positive result for a Walsall team (of sorts) the way things have been going of late it might be good to 'hold that thought' for a while as we battle against dropping into the 'zone', once Bakybyro is dropped again to be replaced by more experienced 'forwards', or is that being a tad sarcastic?

Do hope at least half of those were Swansea, Wimbledon fans should know better surely?

i think the git that thought up this silly format is hoping that the crowds will get better as the competition goes on. as i see it i think that they will get better because the under 23 teams will be out long before the final.
7 of the under 21's went out tonight and 4 went through

I doubt it. I would bet my house on the fact they have never brought less than 66.

As an overall proportion of their average attendance, probably the 1,540 at Bolton along with AFC Wimbledon's 461 is the lowest - around 10% of the norm for those clubs (based on early season figures).
The lowest 'on the night' appears to be the 392 at Fleetwood.

Not really. I get the reason why many fans have boycotted the competition, and I agree with the sentiment that it will hopefully make the FA/Football League or whoever runs the competition re-think for next season. We had a significantly lower crowd there tonight, less than a thousand home fans (I would say about than half what the attendance would have been if it had been in the normal format), but to say it is bad/sad that those 900 odd that turned is a bit harsh. Those that feel strongly enough not to go didn't, and those who still wanted to go watch it did. Fair play to them I say.
Sounded like we played quite well. Pleased for Bakayoko, hopefully this gives him confidence to grab a few in the league now.
Was this Grimsby's first team or did they have their reserves out too?

Do you not grasp the concept of the Group Stage? Nobody "went out tonight". There are still 2 games to play in the group - and every other group.
