Only because the Iceland told the Yanks if they didn't intervene they'd have to move their military base to somewhere else, so the yanks got onto us and we caved in.

A bit like This referendum really.

I'm not sure who else england fans would want in the role?

Also really pleased to see Rooney get the praise for running the team - any club in the world would have him in their side and the views that he doesnt care are just ridiculous.

*Disclaimer - Im well aware that Hodgson's hand was forced with Bale's goal but it was still a good call. This will be the last we see of Sterling and will be suprised if kane starts again - although i still think Sterling is more of an "impact" player.

I think Hodgson made changes based on common sense at long donald ducking last.
Oh and the media have influenced him too.
At least he had the guts to change things I suppose.

As Liverpool are my "second" team, I watched Hodgson with interest when he was there. I honestly couldn't see any system or style under him. He's at the WBA level that's all. There's a good reason he looks bewildered.

As for Putin, Obama reckons all he's done is bankrupt the Russian economy when we lall know that the US forcing down the price of oil has done that.
The Russians are a weird mob at the top anyway - why don't they at least show friendship to other nations?
Wipe them out while they are down is what the US want to do and I'm won't argue against that.

I thought that was Saudi trying to wreck the USA's fracking industry? Oh well, you live and learn.

Was waiting for Sound_Out to cut and paste some flimsy diatribe from one of his fringe websites to support his mate. Clearly even they recognise the politics at play here.

The way this tournament is structured , Italy and the Republic of Ireland could meet each other again before the final .

Several other teams could also . Has this happened before ?

I think some players who get paid over 100k a week to play football actually forgot how to kick a football for forty five minutes.

Apparently the Iceland manager only has to pin up a poster of Ronaldo in the dressing room before each game

Good luck to the FA trying to fill Wembley after that
If someone offered me a free limousine from Walsall to Wembley and a free match ticket I'd turn its down and that's the truth.

The political jokes aside, it's no big surprise given how poor we were against Slovakia, how we somehow managed to draw against a very poor Russia having not been able to hit a cow's arse with a banjo!

If you look at the build up, Hodgson has to be blamed but given how much these players earn in their day jobs, you would have thought that they could have broken down Slovakia, Russia and Iceland. It's a joke!

Ultimately, I say "Good for Iceland" - they deserve it. We were cack, directionless and clueless. We didn't know how to break down mediocre defences. Tinkering with players in the build up, playing a poor Sterling (AGAIN!!!), bringing on Wilshere who clearly wasn't fit, being unable to defend against ICELAND (FFS - no disrespect but we should have beaten them - France certainly will!!) for the first goal. And WTF was Hart doing? He's been utterly cack this tournament!

But unlike previous England debacles, I will watch the rest of the tournament. I hope Iceland beat France and I hope Wales beat Belgium. Both punching above their weight IMHO but at least they have a clue about the game.

The players and the management of England should be utterly ashamed.
