Winter Break

Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:24 pm

One thing to come out of our world cup debacle is the need for a winter break in our domestic leagues.

Why !!

Did we need a break when we won the world cup in 66 , when we ruled Europe in the 70's and 80's , when.Terry Venables and Bobby Robson lead us to the semi finals in 2 major tournaments .Players are supposed to be fitter and better prepared these days , pitches are much better is it just another excuse ?

Many things probably would be looked at before a winter break. The traditionalist would say no. One of the first fixtures you look at is the xmas and new year games. Do we look at the amount of cup competitions, domestic and european. Look at fulham and their european exploits just gone, almost a years solid football. Replays in domestic cups. Looking at that would you potentially deprive the smaller clubs the money spinning opportunity of a home replay and cut the revenue to these cash strapped clubs even more.

They had enough of a break this winter anyway due to postponements.
What a dreadful excuse.

You may as well just kill English football right now, if we stop playing games over the Christmas period.

What a bunch of lame gits they really are. They play football, not carry sodding bricks up and down a ladder 40 hours a week. If your tired go to soddin bed earlier.

I agree. The christmas period is tradition in football here.

Me and my dad attend the most games over this period, therefore i would be proper peed off if they had a winter break. If they want one so badly give it to them at the end of January/February.

Look at the other players in the World Cup who also play in the Prem.

Does Tevez look jaded?

Dunno but something needs to happen. The premier league rubbish has killed the only two things I loved in football:

Walsall and England. :x

Why does a break (if it was installed) have to be over Christmas new year period? You could have it say in mid january for a couple of weeks when the traditional holiday period is over

... and what would our top clubs, with their pampered, over-played players, do during such a break? Why, go on a money-raising, promotional tour to somewhere like Singapore, to develop their fanbase, of course!

If they moan about their players being tired they should point out the Far East and American tours that they take. Hardly good for the body is it?
