Defoe, Rooney

What is he doing? No Joe Cole? Gerrard on the left? Milner on the right? Still playing 4-4-2. What happened to him learning from his mistakes?

Agreed------I now expect a loss

1 0 ENGLAND Defoe. Good start by England and we're dominating the Slovs. Great work by Milner out on the right.

Come on ENGLAND!

I hate to give the Yanks anything but, to be fair, they have been robbed of a couple of valid goals which would have qualified them comfortably but for two poor match officials' decisions.

Why do teams sit back and try to defend a lead  England were much the better side and yet had to rely on some last ditch defending in the last few minutes.

Anyway - job done, well done to all.

I am delighted to say my hunch was wrong. Now the pressure is off. It does not matter who we get now, playing without pressure we can beat any team.

Most of Europe hates the UK, that's why we never get any votes in the Eurovision Song Contest.

All the world hates the USA that's why none of the decisions in the World Cup have gone their way thus far.

It's the same thing, just on a bigger scale.

We're through. We deserved the win today. Last 16, here we come.

Midway through the second half i worried we'd pay for missed chances we still may having finishing the group as runners up that said we have an extra days preparation .

Much better performance we can and must do better , thought Terry was awesome , bit of a strange dicision bringing Cole on for Rooney as Gerrard stayed on the left.

Take a bow Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Defoe, James, and Upson. Superb.

Johnson still looked shaky at times but oh well.

We needed to calm it down and make sure of the win at the end.
If we'd have gone for it at the end and been beaten by a counterattack it would have been disasterous.

At the end of the day maybe we should look at it as the opportunity to get one over both of our World Cup nemesis's!

We should have had it sewn up well before the end, but to be fair I thought Lampard, Milner and Joe Cole in particular were very calm at the end, keeping possession very well in the extremely irritating way that teams normally do against us.

Despite the occasion I thought it was one of the most enjoyable England games I have seen for a long while. It was more like a Premier league game, and had it not been for the brilliance of their goalie I think we would have won by three or four.

Agree Harry. We should have sewn it up earlier but after we didn't it was right to keep our heads and run the clock down.
When we took it into the corner and wasted time I admit I also thought back to when other teams have done it and getting annoyed but it makes sense. As Klinsmann was saying the other day on the BBC, "You have to be mean!"

A bit more luck, Rooney would of had one, and Terry would, and so would Gerrard. We did make it a nervy ending for ourselves.
