In my opinion, England's squad is at least as good as any other in this tournament. They might not be olive-skinned Adonises with important-sounding foreign names, or play in some obscure league where the shirts are plastered in adverts & stars, but they're bloody good players and are representing the sport's native country - and yes, that does make a difference, because there's extra pride at stake.

We're quick to jump on Blatter et al. when they down-talk our football team, but a lot of England fans are pretty negative about the team themselves. I don't know whether they're trying to maintain modesty, but winners don't think like that. Winners achieve their goal, whatever it takes, whoever is opposing them. Success is a choice.

Absolutely.
Perhaps because England fans have been let down so many times before, the negativity comes from that.
Added to that the press tend to build them up and then rip them apart.

Only 3 teams can win the World Cup this year, Spain, Brazil and England.

Anyone ever heard of these Argies that are in the squad?
Diego Pozo (Colon)
Nicolas Otamendi (Velez Sarsfield)
Juan Manuel Insaurralde (Newell's Old Boys)
Clemente Rodriguez (Estudiantes)
Ariel Garce (Colon)
Sebastian Blanco (Lanus
Jesus Datolo (Olympiacos)
Jose Sosa (Estudiantes)
Juan Mercier (Argentinos Juniors)

:? :? :?

Just because we have not heard of them it does not mean they are cack. Their unknown quantity may work in their favour.

BTW I love Newell's Old Boys Badge

Spain, Brazil, Germany & Holland are the 4 which have a chance in winning the World Cup. We wont.

You're making the mistkae of thinking Maradona is a manager and knows how to select a squad. I suspect many other players have 'niggling injuries' or aren't answering the phone. Argentina only scraped into the finals by the skin of their teeth, and it'll be interesting to see if they get out of their group.

I dont, im just making a point

I think Argentina are wasted some of their greatest ever talent by keeping the cheating knobber in charge of their national team.

Messi can take the Argies all the way IMO, regardless of wether the fat bloater is in charge or not.

Good old Lord Triesman has helped our hopes of hosting the world cup

If what he said is true he should resign from his post at the FA

He has gone - so the F.A. is now without both a Chairman and a Chief Executive - brilliant leadership by the national governing body for football.

I think it's fantastic news. Get rid of all the old fuddy duddies and bring in a young fresh approach to we can start fulfilling our potential. And that includes not bringing in a Scot.

Triesman was the anti-fuddy duddy candidate. As much as a middle-aged peer of the realm can be. But he at least came in saying the right things about taking on the Premier League. They must be rather happy today - their dislike of him was well known. I smell a stitch-up.

I'm interested in what people will make of the Mail's role in all this. FIFA have been looking for an excuse to give the World Cup to anyone but England and now they have it. How does potentially scuppering our bid for the sake of a bit of Sunday morning titilation square with their naked patriotism?

And will anyone actually investigate his allegations about Spain and Russia? It seems a very strange plot to make up purely to impress a bit on the side.

It's the flippin' Mail group you should be "thanking" for their part in reporting what was neither in public or national interest.

Planks.

Today they're trying to take credit for given the bid a 'Helping Hand'. Idiots.

Horrible paper, read by (in the main) horrible, confused and sometimes mislead people. They'll be saying 'the Polish did it' next....
