Chesterfield (A) Emirates F.A. Cup 2nd round, 5th Dec, 3pm
A meeting of two teams who have just lost (or got rid of) their manager with identical initials of DS. A quick scan of their main message board reveals Mark Cooper as the most frequently mentioned replacement for Dean Saunders, although there are such comments as "Why would we replace three-times relegated Dean Saunders with three-times sacked Mark Cooper"? Since Chesterfield got the better of us at home on October 17th their form has nose-dived to the point where they now find themselves in 16th place in League One, only 4 points above the relegation zone. Sylvain Ebanks-Blake is still their leading scorer, with 7 goals to his name, and we can only hope that he isn't allowed the kind of free header that came his way at Bescot. Current form:
31 Oct Fleetwood Town (A) League One, Won 0-1
9 Nov F.C. United of Manchester (A) F.A. Cup 1st round, Won 1-4
14 Nov Oldham Athletic (H) League One, Lost 1-2
21 Nov Port Vale (A) League One, Lost 3-2
24 Nov Doncaster Rovers (A) League One, Lost 3-0
28 Nov Swindon Town (H) League One, Lost 0-4
Team selection is in the hands of the caretaking triumverate of Messrs Ward, Whitney and Cutler. Based on the players' reactions and performance against Shrewsbury Town it's very tempting to support the old principle of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The only doubt would seem to be Tom Bradshaw, but if reports of a flesh wound are correct he may well be declared fit. It was good to see Sam Mantom's name on the substitutes list at Shrewsbury - the assumption has to be that he is now match-fit.
Our home defeat by Chesterfield wasn't helped by our smacking their woodwork three or four times, and a MOM performance from goalkeeper Lee. I feel sure that if we can transfer our form at Greenhous Meadow to the ProAct Stadium (I very nearly wrote Saltergate there!!) we should come away with the certainty of having Walsall's name in the cloth bag for the 3rd round draw......and if we do, what's the betting we get lumbered with Brentford at home?

What's the parking like? I'm struggling to find out much info? Probably won't be able to get there until about 2.15 so I'm wondering whether you can park on tesco (3 hours free parking?).
Oh, and hoping fir a 2-1 win Cook and Sawyers.

They weren't actually that good in the league even though they beat us on the day.
Ebanks Blake bossed Matt Preston though, what kind of idiot manager would put a young inexperienced lad marking a proven player like Ebanks Blake  :D
Chesterfield have basically got a few good player's but had Dean Saunders as a manager so that will take them a while to recover from.
Chesterfield 1 Walsall 2
Lalkovic and Rico.
Att : 4800, 550 Saddlers.
It's cheap to get in so hopefully a few more saddlers can make the journey.

:D Offer here,
Expect us to win and why shouldn't we.
Winning games breeds confidence and another win to forget recent events would be welcomed.
An injury free ugly 1-0 will do for me..
Followed by an away trip to Old Trafford and OUT of the cup.... IDEAL.
Cook to score.

This site is pretty good. Best keep away from Tesco.

We parked on the pub by the ground last year, reasonably cheap and easy to get away.
God, how bad were we there last year?
I'm going for a 3-2 win to us this time around, Ebanks-Blake with a brace for them and Cook to strike again with Romaine and Lalkovic with the others.
I'd go with the same team, with Cook in for Bradshaw and maybe rest O'Connor for Preston if he's still carrying that knock from a couple of weeks ago.

There is a hotel across from the ground (opposite a KFC too) on the main road which I parked on for £5 in March. Usual caveat however that you can park there and pay but when you come back to your car it's as if you never paid and your car had no real security...

bit of an odd one this. it will be interesting to see what shape the team will take with bradshaw out. because i don't think it works very well with cook in that role.i think mantom will come on at some point. and hopefully jordon on the bench. i am going for a 0-2 win with 600 saddlers :)

This is going to be a close game, I think. Both goalkeepers will be very busy.
Fred Barber wont know what has hit him with a thunderbolt from Cookie!!
Richard O'Donnell will be kept on his toes from Mr Ebanks!!
Chesterfield 4
Alan Birch
Ishmel Demontagnac
Dwayne Mattis x2
Walsall 3
Gus Uhlenbeek
Dean Holden
Craig Westcarr
6940 (623 Saddlers!!)

Wind could play a part if it stays as strong this afternoon as it currently is in Leeds.

Part of me wants Coventry at 3pm on Saturday 9th Jan so not too bothered about today, already had a glamour tie this season v Chelsea.
Probably best I'd say is draw, then see what the draw throws up and if it's worth winning to go to Rochdale or Bradford yet again.

According to Radio Sheffield there is live commentary online on their site for today's game (presumably the FA Cup isn't subject to the same streaming rights as the League??).

The first yellow card of the game goes to Chesterfield's Sam Hird.
Chesterfield double substitution, 64 min ==== and a third sub shortly after, 69 min
Upset seems to be on the cards..... Northampton Town 0 Northwich Victoria 2 now
