Scunthorpe United (A) League One, Tue Sep 29, 7.45pm
It's almost a relief to say that our next game is away from the pressures of a home fixture and on Tuesday we visit Glanford Park, the home of Lincolnshire's only League club, Scunthorpe United. The Iron, for us old-timers, are mere whippersnappers, having only been elected to the Football League in 1950, and between 1958 and 1964 they played in Division II (The Championship). The rest of the time it's been mostly the fourth tier however, and current manager Mark Robins (ex-Walsall, of course) has the job of trying to achieve promotion. So far this season they look to be going the other way, currently in the bottom four having only won 2 games out of 9 and only scored 8 goals in the process. Robins' managerial record at Scunthorpe has only resulted in a "win" percentage of 28%. Most embarrassing moment this season would have been losing at home to the execrable Blackpool, a result described by Iron player Neal Bishop as "scandalous" (and he should know, being an ex-Blackpool player!!). Current form:
29 Aug Colchester United (A) League One, Drew 2-2
1 Sep Barnsley (H) F.L. Trophy, Lost 1-2
5 Sep Blackpool (H) League One, Lost 0-1
12 Sep Coventry City (H) League One, Won 1-0
19 Sep Rochdale (A) League One, Lost 2-1
26 Sep Southend United (A) League One, Lost 2-1
Paddy Madden is Scunthorpe's leading scorer by miles with 5, no-one else has more than 1.
Like the Crewe game, in a way, this is a potential banana-skin. Looking at the League table it's a match we would be expected to win quite comfortably, but we do seem to have the unfortunate habit of slipping up against the lower-position teams. Scunthorpe's defensive record isn't all that bad - they've conceded 12 League One goals, which is better than Bury or Sheffield United, for example. Dean Smith's team selection, as always, poses a conundrum for anyone trying to read his mind.....so let's just predict a Saddlers' win 0-2, goals coming from Sawyers (he is due) and Lalkovic.

Play like we did Saturday and we'll win won't we?
We should do anyway even though a draw away from home is never a bad result.
I've never been to Scunthorpe and won't be going to this I will be going to Wigan instead.
Scunthorpe 1 Walsall 1, Lalkovic for us.
ATT: 3298, 265 Walsall fan's.
Our home and away attendance's so far this season have been gash, Apart from Blackpool that was obviously always going to be decent.

Was a decent showing at Southend, almost 400 but agree so far, should be at least 600 at Wigan. Well you would hope so anyway.

I went to Southend it was a ok following at best lots of families for the weekend instead of a few lads together boosted it by 150 or so.
600 will be the most we take to Wigan not at least,,it's £43 return on the train quite expensive for quite a short trip.
A few season's ago we'd have took 1000+ to Wigan and as for 3800 home fan's on Saturday when we could have gone top of the league that's nothing short of scandalous.
The people in block 1 need to get a grip I heard a few chants of loyal supporter's aimed at the people leaving a couple of minutes early,
I think it's fair to say the 3800 of us there are the loyal supporters.

Another game that we should expect to win (like crew),but really need to win this one, after a brilliant august unbeaten 1 win oot of 6 in september has put in mini slump and need to stop it before turns into long bad run.

Dunno with wigan, gathered some interest it seems. It just shows how ruined our fan-base is nowadays though, will take up until xmas at least to properly boost the games I'd say, watched the highlights vs Crewe and it was so empty it's embarrassing.
Thing is with trains, if you book now for Wigan you're stupid or just loaded, always an advanced thing for deals and such. I paid less than 20 quid for a return to wigan a while back. Though you can still get an off-peak return for 24 quid with specific times.

Tuesday away. Gonna be a nightmare to get there after work.
But
2nd in the table with a chance of going top. That just doesn't happen very often. Can't afford to miss it.
C'mon the Saddlers
1-2

Isn't Scunny another bogey team like Crewe?
They always seem to get comfortable wins at Bescot and can't remember too many wins at Bescford Park, Cuvelier winner a few years back is all I can remember.
Surprised they're in the bottom 4 as they spent a bit of money in the summer on likes of Paddy Madden.
Think a point would be good from this, wouldn't shock me if it's 0-0.

Interesting thread about the away support, I've never been to an away game and thought "Christ, there's no-one here". Theres always enough, even when the following is small. Not really compared our away followings to other teams around us when the situations are identifical (both games being on a saturday etc.) We've only been given 350 tickets for saturday, I'll be there, it's cost me £15 on the train with a railcard....which doesn't sound too bad but i'm only popping up (Get there for half 1 and come back at half 5)....So I've had to buy singles to keep the cost down.
Hoping for something out of this game!! Wish I was going, however I'm not, safe journey to those making the trip!

I'll be there, could do with a win going into the Wigan game, although a point seems more likely. I'm going for a good old fashioned 0-0 draw.

I've had quite enough of the law of irony that successfully predicted the defeat by Bury and the 1-1 thrashing of Crewe.
We need more of the spirit of Graydon. Two late goals v Doncaster a fortnight ago. Brett Angell at Rotherham (have that Bobbins).
Let's have a belief that we are sound footballing team and we can always create and finish a goal.
Let's have a 1-0 victory and a Sallian Wasn't Right t-shirt.

Would love it if we can take 4 points from our next two fixtures so I'll go for a win against Scunny.
2-0 to us

I will be there and looking forward to this one. Im viewing a portacabin at 6:00pm near Grimsby which is only 20 minutes from Scunthorpe :D
Im actually more confident of taking 3 points from Wigan so i'll go for 1-1 at Scunthorpe with Sawyers on the score sheet.

Apology accepted. I'm picking up an F-plate Bedford Rascal in Goole tomorrow but you don't hear me going on about it.

But you just had to go and mention it though, I can't help but feel that you have used my bragging as a platform for yourself.

Have a bad feeling about this one, I've been going to BescotMark11ford Park for yonks and can only ever remember us scraping one 1-0 win, many, many years ago. Always go hoping for the best but always coming away disappointed. :?
On paper we should stroll this one, but they are as much a bogey team as Crewe as far as I'm concerned. I hate to think we'll get beat by this lot currently, but who'd have thought that we would drop 2 points against a very poor Crewe team?
2-1 defeat is on the cards then.
Hoping for better things against a higher 'ranking' Wigan side on Saturday.

We almost won there in 2013, but contrived to concede a late equaliser and then waste an absolutely glorious chance in injury time.
Happily, we are far more ruthless nowadays...
I'm going for 1-1.

I remember Trevor Wood in the mid 90's playing a blinder against them in goal and us winning 1-0 at their place

0-1 to the Super Saddlers. Cook in injury, injury time. Downing with the assist.
