Bury (H) League One, 5th September, 3pm
The Shakers come to Bescot on Saturday - this is an early thread as I'll be in the depths of the Czech Republic for a few days, and hopefully we can get back to winning ways after dominating the game at Morecambe but being unable to place the ball in the net.
So, what do we know about Bury? Longer established (1885) than ourselves, and still playing at the same Gigg Lane home they always have. One of the few clubs to have a manager younger than Dean Smith - David Flitcroft (younger brother of Garry) is only 41, and guided Bury to promotion from League 2 last season when they finished in 3rd place on 85 points.
This season hasn't been successful as yet, not on the league front anyway. Cup competitions appear to be their forte and they've recorded away wins at Wigan Athletic (League Cup) and Accrington Stanley (JPT Trophy), both by 1-2 scorelines. League One games show a different picture though - 5 games played and no wins yet, as opposed to our 5 games played and no defeats (yet). Their most recent 6 games:
15 Aug Swindon Town (H) League One, Drew 2-2
18 Aug Fleetwood (H) League One, Lost 3-4
22 Aug Crewe Alexandra (A) League One, Drew 3-3
25 Aug Leicester City (H) League Cup 2nd round, Lost 1-4
29 Aug Oldham Athletic (H) League One, Drew 1-1
1 Sep Accrington Stanley (A) F L Trophy, Won 1-2
Leon Clarke is Bury's leading League One scorer so far, with 4 goals to his name. Perhaps surprisingly Tom Pope has only a couple, having been signed on a 3-year contract from Port Vale where he was their top scorer for 3 years in succession. Other signings during the close season have included 19-year old goalkeeper Christian Walton on a season-long loan from Brighton, plus defenders Danny Pugh (from Coventry City) and Reece Brown (brother of Wes).
Bury occupy 17th place in the League One table at present, a point above the drop zone. They have, however, managed to score 10 goals in their 5 League One games, only one goal fewer than ourselves. Their Achilles Heel, if they have one, is a defence that has conceded 11 goals - if Messrs Bradshaw, Mantom and Saunders can re-discover their shooting boots there should be 3 points for the taking. I'll be ambitious and go for a 3-0 win, with the aforesaid trio getting one each.

Think we will win the game maybe 2-1 with Bradshaw and Sawyers/Mantom scoring the goals. Would like to see Forde given a chance to start, he has played well this season and was our best player last night after coming on. Biggest issue for us is cover at right back, Kinsella isn't the answer and would be better suited in midfield but we don't really have any other options.

8-0. All the chances from last night to be made up for.
I sincerely hope Smith plays Matt Preston as Pope aoways causes us problems, especially Downing. Preston will just swat him away like an annoying fly.

Re: Bury (H) League One, 5th September, 3pm
Feels like a big game, but then they all do.
The way we have always played under Smith requires confidence. This has lead to very streaky form. When we get on a roll like at the start of this season, confidence is high and we put together a string of good results. Unfortunately, the reverse has also been true, leading to Cully's infamous form guides that look like the names of Welsh railway stations.
So on the back of Tuesday night, which played out nearly identically to the game at Shrewsbury in 2012 that started a horrid run, it would be really good to bounce straight back with a win.
I think we'll do it but it will be tight.
2-1 (Pope always scores against us).

Two nil... Bradshaw brace.
Swindon raise their offer by 8p in a bid to sign him in January.

This will be our toughest test by a country mile.
I'll go for a 1-1.
Bradshaw for us and Pope for them.

3-1
Lalkovic, Forde and Mantom
Feeling slightly nervous about this one though, our record against them is horrendous.

Bury can't stop conceding and we're the 2nd highest scorers ( ) so we'll score 3.

We have to draw sometime so I will go 2-2 in view of our goalscoring form so far.

This has banana skin all over it. I'll go for 0-1 with Keister getting sent off.
All the Bury players to be total cack apart from Tony Kelly who has to be rolled around in talc prior to kick off.

Got a bad feeling about this one. Pope has been a menace against us in the past and as previously stated I hope Preston plays as he will give as good as he gets. Also we will miss Lleyton's marauding runs up the wing.

I can't remember the last time we beat Bury at home and they are also on a good unbeaten away run. Combine this with the 'Manager of the month' curse and I think either 1-2 or a 2-2 draw in front of a 5,000+ crowd.

Re: Bury (H) League One, 5th September, 3pm
Going to be tough game they can certainly score goals and pope always has good game against us.
Lots of bad omens to this one I think we have only won once in last ten meetings, bury on good run of away results, and smith won manager of month, pope nearly always scores against us.
On the up side their defence poor so we should score and I predict 1-1 but I rarely get score right
(I predicted 1-1 against blackpool and a hard game).

We're Walsall, we're top of the table, and we'll beat these 3-0 easily.

2-2.
I'm going today and last time I saw Walsall win live was Notts County 5-1 in January 2014. I must've been to about 15 games since....
At least Leon Clarke is out, he was always a bogey player when he played for Coventry. Think him and Pope as a front two would've tipped me over the edge.

It's got to be 1-1 again (it better be, a flippin great wedge has been placed on this as a correct score!)
Hope I lose my money, and we beat 'em easily, if he puts his strongest team out we should, but with a sprinkling of inexperienced kids like Tuesday, then we WILL lose our top spot.

i remember alfie wood scoring against them years ago. in the days when they let you swap ends at half time. it was a corker. he did 3 laps of honour before realising the ref had blown for someone else being off side  my prediction is 2-2 bradshaw and sawyers for us pope with a brace for them with 5000+ in attendance. they have spent big this season and i think they are in a false position in the league. they have got to click sometime and i've got a feeling it will be today :( . i think our failure in front of goal will be our downfall :?
