Is there really nobody who attended yesterday's game willing to condemn the team, the manager and the performance in the strongest possible terms, perhaps using CAPITAL LETTERS and words like SHAMBLES, EMBARRASSMENT, NADIR and VANARAMA CONFERENCE?

Are we really to believe that there wasn't a burning pile of season tickets illuminating the murderous visages of the long-suffering handful who stayed to jeer our sparrow-hearted collection of pygmies from the field?

Nobody who was there has condemned the performance because it's become the norm we've played as badly as that on a number of occasions this season and lost 1-0 or even scrapped a 0-0 the only difference yesterday was we were playing the best team in the league. The chants that went " Your nothing special we lose every week " and " How cack must you be you've only scored 8" may be tongue in cheek but in reality they sum up the feelings of our loyal supporter's and what we've had to put up with this season home and away.

Strange, Leigh (now my home town) is pure rugby league, yet in the town this morning, my window sticker (a dead giveaway) gave rise to the ridicule of "8 bloody one, 8 bloody one, and their centre forward wears glasses, whilst he's playing!" Barnstoneworth loosing to Brighouse Reserves in an episode of 'Ripping Yarns' was at the centre of such ridicule I believe. :wink:
Still at least we have a degree of notoriety now, even in a rugby league town!!

no mate, we seen enough in the first half to make us happy and excited about the future, second half bristol just managed to find the back of the net when ever they penetrated our box.... at 2-2 and just before there goal we looked like the team to take the lead but straight off out corner they got one goal and then just seemed to have their tails up...

a few left early and seemed disgruntled but more at the frustration of conceding then any poor sloppy play.

What is your view on the actual performance or if you didn't attend what in your opinion are the reasons why we suffered a record defeat not only for this season but for the last 34 years by any club in this division? Here's another question, do you think that SMITHOUT is mainly responsible for this record defeat?

If SMITHOUT is responsible, he is also responsible for the first-half performance in which we matched the runaway champions, took the lead, and only got pegged back by an extremely dubious penalty. The same players featured in the second half (largely), so I would place the burden of blame on those players whose effort/skill/attitude (delete as necessary) didn't come up to scratch in that second half.

Love it. I especially liked the threads over on the AAW message board entitled 'Where do we go from here?' and 'Utter embarrassment', which were started before most of us had made it as far as Gloucester. :lol:

The problem for Smith, Welshy, is a football match is 90 minutes long, not 45. It's no good finding the magic formula for half the game, only to lose it again for the next 45. Similar to the season, it's no good finding a winning formula for a few games towards the end (or start, last year) of a season, only to completely lose the plot for the majority of the season.

Perhaps, when the learning curve has been travelled, and he's stopped his learning of football management (currently predicted to be around May 2025) we can look forward to the long awaited upturn in form.

I'm sure most of us would rather see us lose 6-5 or draw 3-3 (as recently) instead of the tedious 0-0 0-1 drivel that we had come to expect!

Obviously that wasn't a serious comment Cully, hence the :wink: at the end.
But when we were in the spell where we'd not scored in 6 hours or something, there were people commenting on match threads that they'd rather see us have a go and lose than just pass sideways all game and end up with nil. And by the sounds of what I heard on Saddlers player, we did have a go, in the first half anyway.
And I couldn't make the game, as I was working all weekend, that's why I haven't come on here and criticised the performance or praised it for that matter, like I usually do whenever I can make it to a game.
And to answer your question, the manager obviously has a fair chunk of the responsibility for any result, but the players surely have to take part of this responsibility too? As much as you can coach, train, practice and motivate the players, there's only so much a manager can do once his players are on the pitch.
This result is a one-off, and certainly shouldn't be used alone as a reason for Smith to be sacked.. its not like we've been losing by 6 goals every week.

That was probably one of the worst seasons for watching Walsall entertain, despite the occasional exception, I have ever seen home and away. In the main, tedious, boring and predictable performances and defended by some with a bizarre sense of loyalty to SMITHOUT [who is statistically our worst manager in recent years] most of whom don't appear to have watched any games or in a few instances more than a couple of times this season.

I suppose one could argue that the absolute stuffing that ended our season was better at their place than Wembley. I'd have hated to have flown 20,000km to watch us get tonked like that.
