Peterborough United (A) League One Mon 6th Apr, 3pm

Fri Apr 03, 2015 8:03 pm

OK, so we have 7 games left this season to try and at least salvage our League One place - and where better to make an impact than away at Peterborough? Since sacking Darren Ferguson their form immediately improved under caretaker Dave Robertson but after winning his first 3 games there has been a relapse into non-promotion results, despite acquiring 3 loan signings (Alan Sheehan from Bradford City, James Pearson from Leicester City, and Luke Williams from Middlesbrough. Current form:

7 Mar Leyton Orient (H) Won 1-0
14 Mar Doncaster Rovers (A) Won 0-2
17 Mar Preston North End (A) Lost 2-0
21 Mar Chesterfield (H) Won 1-0
28 Mar Coventry City (H) Lost 0-1
3 Apr Scunthorpe (A) Lost 2-0

Posh are currently 9th in the table on 56 points but they've only managed to score 10 goals more than ourselves, and they do have a negative goal difference (-3) which isn't ideal for anyone aiming for promotion. Leading scorer Conor Washington (9 goals) was substituted after an hour of their most recent game at Scunthorpe.

We seem to be crawling towards safety one point at a time, and I can see Dean Smith opting for yet another 0-0 result for this one as Tom Bradshaw will be missing again. It's probably wishful thinking to hope for striker(s) being played in a striking position rather than on the wing - or am I becoming sceptical in my old age? At least he gave Morris a start against Notts County, but perhaps Grimes or Bakayoko deserve more than a cursory 10 minutes at the end of a game. For once I'm not going to predict the Walsall win that usually appears here - I'll stick with the forecast of 0-0, with the hope that I'm wrong and we reproduce the kind of form of which the players are capable and make it look like an easy 3 points. I'm not holding my breath though......... :D

We'll nick an unexpected point against a team in the top half, 1-1, with O'Connor for us.

I'm going and am gonna boldly predict a 2.1 win. Jordan Cook will score early doors and Keiron Morris will get a breakaway goal following a slick move that shows Walsall at its best.

Washington will score in the 80th minute to ensure a tense finish.

At the end of the game, Keiron Morris will lead a conga to the Walsall faithful as we reach the 50-point mark.

It will be a massive result and Dean will say how he plans to build on this and plan an assault on the play-offs next season.

Mark my words...

I will destroy my head on the small Boro turnstiles, and forget a 1-0 win courtesy of Morris through memory loss.

One thing is for certain, If we lose it wont be any of the squads fault or Smith for that matter. I've been trying to put myself in the managers shoes to see just how difficult it is to prepare for a game as Dean Smith.

Weather
1) wind direction is 5 mph N.N.W our 4-5-1 formation is much better suited to a 50 mph N.E as we struggle to get the ball forward, this way we can hope the odd pass rolls a bit further and be classed as a shot on target. Those pesky fans don't like the fact we have had 1 shot on target in our last 2 games.

2) Don't be fooled by the mild sounding 13°c the actual "feels like temperature" is 12°c some our boys don't like the cold so this could be a game changer for us.

3)We are a passing side and to pass we have to be able to see each other visibility is only rated good tomorrow out of:(E = Excellent, VG = Very Good, G = Good, M = Moderate, P = Poor, VP = Very Poor) i can see this causing us major problems.

Referee
Haven't checked who it is yet but we can 100% pin something on him if we lose.

Fans
They are not supportive enough when we don't shoot and just pass the ball aimlessly from left to right not actually going anywhere. if there is at any point a good solid 3 second boo all other research was a waste of time blame them.

0-0 600 saddlers.

Our opponents on Saturday are getting some shooting practice.... Fleetwood 3 Yeovil Town 0 (34 min)

In the championship, Rotherham 1 Brighton 0 is an early score, and if Rotherham do win it will send Blackpool down.

After 12 minutes at Peterborough, we've had 3 goal attempts (Sawyers, Morris and Cook) against 1 from Posh.

Crawley 2 Oldham Athletic 0 (34 min)

Chesterfield 1 Crewe Alexandra 0 (28 min)

Leyton Orient 1 Gillingham 1 (36 min) - this moves us down to 17th place in the table... (Edit - back up to 16th)

And two points off the relegation zone! Looks as if the remaining three spots will be contested by around 8 clubs, with us in the mix.

60% possession and 8 attempts on goal in the first 35 minutes. Sounds promising.

Sounds like we're dominating and it is still 0-0!

Why am I worried about what might happen in the 2nd half?

One encouraging sign - the odds are now in favour of the draw (11/10). :D

Half-time 0-0....I'm quite happy with that.
