91 minutes, Matt Preston on for Michael Cain

Sighs of relief all round as it finishes 3-2.......I wish they wouldn't do that!!!

A win at home at least they managed to hang on after letting in 2 goals. Onwards and upwards.

Looks like we peaked too soon. Still, points on the board is the most important thing!

Good win, fair play to Dale for coming back into it, they are a good team and one of the best in the division goals wise and away from home. We didn't buckle, dug in and got a good win. 5 goals in 2 games without Bradshaw? Goals from Forde and Cook who have really stepped up to the plate since Christmas IMO. The points are all that matter, 10 from safety now - let's see where we are when we get to 50.

Great win that! I'd have taken a draw before the game. 2 points outside the play offs now. Where's Phil?

True, but over the next few weeks the games in hand play out. These will probably see Rochdale and Donny go above us and Sheff Utd and maybe Bradford stretching away from us. It will take a brilliant run for us to be in the top six in say a months time and I'm not sure we're quite good enough.

On the plus side, the bottom five have come adrift and we're going to Wembley!

Made that a lot more difficult than it was

Credit to Dale for coming back into it, even it was just a general HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF to Andrew and Vincenti.

Jordi did well first half, anonymous second, very much looked like he has still got youth team football strokes left about him like Cain did early in the season.

Just waiting for the last few cars to clear the car park so we can get going down the motorway and home.

Brilliant first 30 mins. We were playing great.
Petered out a bit at the end of the first half but they couldn't take advantage.

2nd half was pretty awful. They may be a good team but we did our best to give them a route back into it.

The ref was another jobsworth determined not to book anyone which resulted in the dirty tackles getting worse. The closest he came to booking someone was O'Donnell at the end of the game as he kept having a word about time wasting.

Anyway got a 90 minute drive home and a job interview in the morning so I'm off!

Well I was going to say that first half was completely out of kilter with generally what happens in midweek home games or home games full stop, finally a game where all the good approach play ends in goals and a convincing home win. And then the second half started.

Still good win and if that can be followed up with another against Vale.....who knows....

What's looking increasingly likely is it's going to be a very exciting run in to the season so Smith deserves credit for that and not letting things coast since Wembley was booked.

Great result against an impressive Rochdale side. Impressive first 30 mins from us but fair play to their manager for making 2 subs after 30 mins which totally changed the game. After that though, until the last 10 - 15 mins when we gained some control back, they won every battle all over the pitch.

O'Connor had an impressive first half and Rico looked good when he came on. Still think we need our key players fit for the remainder of the season to sneak in the top 6, as we seemed to lose too many battles in key areas in the second half.

Not sure what sort of crowd you expected, portlandbill. But then, maybe my expectations are too low.

Were we "great" in the first half, or was it more to do with the fact their left back went completely awol 3 times, seeing us score 3 times.

That left back then got subbed off on 24 minutes, he was that bad. (For those of you who don't understand football, which is most of you, he was the number 17)

Dale changed it and got physical, and a left back who could defend and then we nearly gave away 3 points from a 3 goal lead!

Well done mediocre Dean!

Much like we did against Gillingham, we came out of the blocks really well. This time though, we were about as clinical as I've seen us since Grigg, Paterson & Brandy. Sawyers and Forde were unplayable, and Hiwula set the tone with his early running. They simply couldn't handle us.

At 3-0 down, Keith Hill changed things - he replaced the left back who's probably still chasing Forde's shadow now, and got Olly Lancashire to man-mark Sawyers. Naturally, this made them a fair bit more solid - and was a huge complement to Sawyers' performance, by the way.

We then start the second half with our best player from the first 45 being man-marked, and with our second best player having been replaced. To be honest, whilst I think we were the masters of our own downfall at times, I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done differently had I been in Smith's shoes. The second half was largely a case of their League One nouse against our complete lack of experience.

Ultimately though, a huge win, and still an impressive performance all in all. That first 21 minutes really was dynamite and if we can keep doing that, our home form will look a whole lot better by the end of the season.

Notable mentions for O'Connor (best game I've seen him have), Sawyers (had a lot of pressure on his shoulders after they singled him out, but handled it well), and Hiwula (very little service, but occupied defenders like a seasoned pro - and took his goal well). More of the same on Saturday please.

People have young families and jobs. Life isn't like the '60s when all women stayed at home all day looking after the kids while men went out down the pub five nights a week and to the match while she cooked and cleaned at home without complaint. Would have loved to have been there tonight, but putting bread on the table by working and putting kids to bed. PS. If anyone can find me a traditional woman that is like a woman from the sixties (ie...Gloria Hunniford-looking) then I'll gladly welcome her into my arms?

Times have changed. I wasn't there tonight, but I'm there in spirit. UTS. Great win! May have been 3.5K there tonight, but there would have been at least another 2K willing them on from home. A priest once said to me during confessions that you should go to church every Sunday to believe and worship God. Bollocks. Same as Walsall fans...there's many that are just as passionate that can't make it every match. You can will the boys on to win, wherever you may be.

Can we send Hiwula back yet Phil? 2 in 2 is bloody mediocre.

How on earth didn't we score 4 or 5 and win to nil against a play-off chasing outfit? These flaming mediocrities. I tell ya, enough stress and anger to send us all to an early grave.

SORT IT OUT DEAN!

PS - Are Bakayoko and Murphy on 'cant play contracts'? It's so angering to see them dwindling away getting non league experience and then us practically writing off 2 careers in the space of a 1 month loan. Smith's clueless. Bafoon. Why can't we thrash teams at home.

SMITH OUT, MERSON IN!!!!!!

A great first half of football from Walsall. Second half we were all over the place, after Rochdale made there subs and Baxendale coming on for us. He is too lightweight and lost the ball too many times.

Thought O'Connor was excellent loved how he headed clear in the first half and went to run after the ball before composing himself and remembering his duties to fall back into defence!!
