Barnsley (H) 13th December, 3pm
In our quest to keep the unbeaten run going, and lift ourselves into the top half of the table we welcome the Tykes from Barnsley who are currently one place below us, with the same number of points. They demonstrate that scoring goals isn't always the be-all-and-end-all of football - they've scored nearly twice as many as us (29 against 15), but have leaked the same proportion (31 v 15). Barnsley's recent form:
8 Nov Burton Albion (H) WON 5-0 (F.A. Cup 1st round)
14 Nov Colchester United (H) WON 3-2
22 Nov Chesterfield (A) LOST 2-1
29 Nov Scunthorpe United (H) LOST 1-2
2 Dec Doncaster Rovers (H) DREW 1-1
7 Dec Chester (H) DREW 0-0 (F.A. Cup 2nd round)
Barnsley have won 3 League One games away from home, at Crewe, Rochdale, and Sheffield United. Their biggest problem at the moment would appear to be their injury list. Manager Danny Wilson has said this week that he has "maybe eight players that haven't trained". Ramage and Bailey are doubtful, and Winnall's hamstring problem will probably keep him sidelined, but Dale Jennings is back to full fitness. Wilson also said that he watched us at Tranmere, and thought we played very well. He says his side need to be brave, stand toe to toe and "push them back".
Walsall injuries.......Jordan Cook is hoping to have recovered from the ankle injury that saw him substituted at half-time at Prenton Park, while the condition of Andy Taylor's knee could mean a home debut for Rico Henry.
Having found out how to score 2 goals (in 45 minutes!!) on Tuesday, I think we can get 3 points from this one - let's say 2-1, with Bradshaw and Sawyers getting on the score sheet. :D

Having forecast the Tranmere game to be a win for them, I'm going to say that the Banks's is a hard place to visit but Barnsley will have a 2-0 win.

Looking at Barnsley's team, I can't quite believe how low they are. Some quality players in there. Leroy Lita, Sam Winnall, Devante Cole, Connor Hourihane etc. Plenty of attacking threat and goals there. Then you look at Danny Wilson and the thought of underachieving with a good budget rings familiar - look back at Swindon a few years ago. I wonder what Smith would do with those resources? They wouldn't be 14th that's for sure. That being said, one thing that's been on my mind in the last few days is - whenever a big cup game, or a final etc opportunity comes round, teams take there eye off the games in the meantime and take some poor results.
Hope Smith doesn't let that happen. Wouldn't be surprised to see Manset pick his form up with a chance at some glory in the next few weeks. Mercenary, obese, manshit barclays.
1-2 Barnsley.
Forde for us, Winnall and Cole for them.
Should be a good gate with them bringing what 750 minimum and it being a family day for us?
5,201.

They do have some really talented players at this level BUT..... Their Assistant Manager is Dogface himself, Chris Hutchings!

You forgot to add Marcello Trotta, they have got a set of forwards that would get into any League 1 team, luckily I think Winnall has an injury that will keep him out

A 1-1 draw, with Sawyers scoring for us, in front of 4,500 +.

Re: Barnsley (H) 13th December, 3pm
I think this will be a game that could be 3 or 4 nil either way. Hopefully our confidence should be pretty high at the moment and it will be us that gets the goals as barnsley are riddled with injuries at the moment but I can see us taking our eye off the ball with the prospect of a trip to Wembley and losing said form before before the area final thus meaning we are going to lose that aswell......thats the nightmare scenario anyway

One of those surprise result days for me, 3-0 to the mighty reds, 2 from Sawyers and Cain again.
poorer than anticipated gate, around 4200 mark.
(The Docs say I should be back to normal if I keep on taking the tablets! )

It's been a watershed week for me - one where I could actually believe black is white.
First the penalty shootout which we won.
Second JB's appearance at Tranmere (from the E&S - "Saddlers chairman Jeff Bonser visited the dressing room at Prenton Park to congratulate the players on their victory over Rovers").
Now Ancient Moaner tipping us to win.
Don't these people realise I don't like change - it upsets me.

Do we ever play well/win when it's a family fun day? We always seem to our level best to ensure none of the additional supporters will ever want to attend again.

Going to be a tough game after a grueller away at tranmere, but confidence should be high, defence will have to be at its best although I think Barnsley will at least get 1.
1-1 Bradshaw for us and cole for the visitors 5000 in attendance

Don`t normally post predictions but seeing as it`s Barnsley and I did a lot of haunting there, predict if Smith lets the same team as Tuesday second half twill be 2-0 to the saddlers. However, if Smith reverts to type will be lucky to scrape a 0-0 draw.

Starting line-up against Barnsley:
O'Donnell
Purkiss
Downing
Chambers
Henry
Baxendale
Cain
Chambers
Cook
Sawyers
Bradshaw
Substitutes: O'Connor, MacGillivray, Benning, Flanagan, Grimes, Forde, Manset.
The bookes have us as favourites to win, at Evens. It's 12/5 the draw, and Barnsley 11/4.

What's going on is that we're in the top half of the table (just), and 4 points away from the play-offs !!!

Both of our potential JPT area final opponents appear to be saving themselves....
Preston North End 0 MK Dongs 1
Notts County 0 Swindon Town 3
A change of manager seems to do some teams good...... Birmingham City 6 Reading 1, and counting
Barnsley Substitution - Leroy Lita enters the fray.
