Shrewsbury Town (H) F.A.Cup 1st round 8 Nov, 3pm
Ah, the magic of the F.A. Cup - the real cup competition, the magic of Stanley Matthews, Ronnie Radford, Jim Montgomery et al. This is the competition where footballing giant-killing was born, nowhere more so than at Fellows Park in 1933.......
We don't get live TV coverage at this stage - the Friday night game between Warrington Town and Exeter City will be shown on BBC2 (kick-off 7.55pm), but all teams have the motivation of knowing that the winning clubs of 1st round matches will receive £18,000 with the prospect of more reward in the 2nd round.....and after that???
However, before we get our chance to slay any giants we have to get past Shrewsbury Town, who we meet in the 1st round just as we did last season. Then goals from Westcarr (2) and Sawyers were enough to us progress 3-0, but I think we might find the Sloppies a tougher proposition now. They are enjoying a successful campaign in League 2 and currently occupy 3rd place in the table, and they've also had some notable successes in other cup competitions, seeing off Blackpool, Norwich City, and Premiership side Leicester City. Shrewsbury's current form:
11 Oct Cheltenham Town (H) Won 3-1
18 Oct York City (A) Won 0-1
21 Oct Bury (H) Won 5-0
25 Oct Portsmouth (H) Won 2-1
28 Oct Chelsea (H) Lost 1-2 (League Cup 4th round)
1 Nov Dagenham & Redbridge (A) Won 1-2
Shrewsbury's goal threats have come from Andy Mangan (7) and James Collins (6), but there is always the menace of Akpa-Akpro to contend with. One player who will probably miss out is defender Jermaine Grandison who was sent off early in the second half at Dagenham & Redbridge for a blatant foul on the last man, and I wouldn't imagine any appeal would be successful.
Dean Smith should again have a full-strength squad available on the back of two successive League wins, which is something we last achieved back in March, when one of those wins was a 1-0 result against Shrewsbury Town. It promises to be a tight game and I'll go for a repeat of that 1-0 scoreline, relying on Tom Bradshaw for our goal - after all, he has more reason than anyone to make his name in this fixture !!

We are going to wallop the great pile of sheep wool, they won't play anybody with our extremely fast tempo, slick passing and ruthless cutting edge I side the box!

Do you often go shopping for dolls ? A strange fetish (however heroic it may appear).
Coincidentally (due to your initials), you're always quite fondly thought of, as Elsie.

Seriously, The Shroos are in a rich vein of form; I mean, come on, only losing 2 - 1 against Cheslki, beating teams when they only have 10 men on the field, unbeaten for a while aside from Chelski....
It'll be a tough one - but at least we're at home. Er, I am led to believe that is supposed to be an advantage :?

It will be a nice day out for them but ultimately they'll go out of this cup like the last... against superior, higher league opposition. 8)

Entertaining 2 - 2 draw in front of 5,121 Bradshaw and Sawyers to get our goals.
We'll beat them 1 - 0 at their place in the replay.

"There" league 2 for a reason, that was last season they've signed about 20 players this season that's why they are playing well this season and are capable of beating us, don't take them lightly.

I'm glad I'm not the only person this drives mad. I cannot believe the amount of people on here (and Facebook) that don't understand "there", "their" and "they're".

Re: Shrewsbury Town (H) F.A.Cup 1st round 8 Nov, 3pm
This is a really close game to call...
I'm going to go for a 1-1 draw, hopefully Bradshaw to score for us. And a 2-1 win in the replay!
I think Smith may see either this game of the Sheffield United game as a chance to give Mantom a start, but Cain has been quietly impressive since he arrived.
I would go with.
O'Donnell
Purkiss
Downing
J.Chambers
Taylor
Forde
Chambers
Cain
Cook
Sawyers
Bradshaw
Att: 4,132 1,054 from Shrewsbury.

A 2-1 win, with Bradshaw and Sawyers for us, in front of 3,636, including a better-than-usual 808 from Salop.

They had sold 900 this morning and were expecting the other 100 of their initial allocation to be sold by the end of today. Fair few on their sites asking about pay on the day. I hope they can pay on the day. That end holds 1800.
So we could see over 4,000 which would be nice. Only needs 3000 of us to be arsed.
We'll win.

The more the merrier. Incidentally, there was only 2,365 'home' supporters for the corresponding FAC match last season, so 3,000 of us tomorrow would be a significant increase on that. Gone are the days when a match like this would have seen 5-6,000, another thing to thank "the best league in the world" for.

If we don't become mega rich and famous I'll blame U2 and the Stones - "the best bands in the world".

Best league in the world.? iv heard some good excuses for our cack support I will put that one in my top 10.
The best league in the world hasn't stopped Shrewsbury bringing over a thousand away.
If we can't sell 3000 for a home game vs shrewsbury at 3pm on a Saturday in any competition we've got problems.

It's the Premiership and Sky that has diminished the status of the FA Cup, along with the incompetence and collusion of the FA.
That is the point I'm trying to make, not a dig at our support, as most games tomorrow will be comfortably below the league average gate of most FL clubs.
Still, at least tonight's live cup-tie illustrated that there is still some magic left in cup football. Well done Warrington Town and UTS.

From the BBC site "League Two Exeter's David Noble volleyed against the bar before Ashley Grimes's shot was cleared off the line.".
So much for the "there's only one Ashley Grimes" songs when he eventually comes good....
