Bristol City (H) League One, Sat 4th October 3.00pm
The acid test - the kiss of death - Welsh Saddler starts a match thread, and one which should be our biggest home challenge of the season against mighty Bristol City, top of the League by 5 clear points. Their current League form:
31 Aug Notts County (A) Won 1-2
6 Sep Scunthorpe United (H) Won 2-0
13 Sep Doncaster Rovers (H) Won 3-0
16 Sep Port Vale (A) Won 0-3
20 Sep Fleetwood (A) Drew 3-3
27 Sep M K Dons (H) Won 3-2
So those six League games have seen a goal difference of 16-6, and the only near-certainty about Saturday's game is that it won't end in a 0-0 stalemate. Of their 21 goals so far, 13 have been contributed by Wilbraham and Agard. Their manager Steve Cotterill must be very pleased by their unbeaten start to the season (in fact their last defeat was way back in March), but says that his team needs to take greater control of the game when ahead. He was referring to last week's match against the Dons, where City were happily 2-0 ahead only to let it slip to 2-2 before getting a 74th minute winner.
The game is all-ticket, and City should bring a fair few supporters if their last home gate (13,119) is anything to go by. If we can get away with a 1-1 draw from this one I'll be quite happy.
City's significant lead at the top of the table puts me in mind of Tranmere Rovers' similar start a couple of seasons ago.....and look what happened to them!

I think we will get a result out of this one, 2-0 to the Saddlers.

If THAT happens we really will have turned round our appallingly abysmal start to the season, though it looks like we will have to get used to Mantom not featuring in a squad choice (the latest report from the club had that 'end of career' look about it, when explaining about the numerous 'tests' that had failed to pinpoint the problem). Just hope that we can retain Butler for as long as possible, he still adds that 'stability' to any defensive set up.
I would LOVE to go back to Rochdale next Tuesday, and avenge that mauling we were subjected too!

Tricky, tricky, tricky this.
Bristol City are steam rolling at the moment and we're right in their way. There wouldn't be a lot of shame in a defeat as long we play with belief and desire.
Having said that I always remain hopeful of 3 points and we've had some decent results recently. I say 1 - 0 to the Saddlers. Bristol City to hit the post, cross bar, be denied a stonewall penalty, have balls saved off the line and 3 disallowed for offside. Super Bradshaw to secure the points for us.

No surprise Bristol are leading the pack....Wilbraham, Kieran Agard, Luke Freeman are the reasons why. Infact Emmanuel Thomas who was one of the best strikers in the league last season has hardly had a sniff this season and has been a sub most weeks.
Oh for Walsall to have that strength in depth upfront, that's how teams get out of this league.
Think this will be a narrow 1-2 loss.

I think we can get a point from this, so a 1-1 draw in front of around 5,500 [3,700 of us, 1,800 of them].

To be honest I'm more interested in the performance than the result for this game. Barring a sizeable shock I can't see us getting anything from this but I won't be unduly worried as long as the performance continues on an upward trend.

We could surprise everyone with this. Except the optimists who've forecast a Saddlers' win, of course.

Could be interesting (very interesting) this one, given their attacking inclinations, which probably favours our style of play.
I'll go for 1-1

Depends which Walsall turn up doesn't it? They should roll this league with heir squad and runs but Walsall have always been decent against these types of teams in the past.
Our squad is as fit as it has been all year though.
2-2

Looking forward to this, despite the madness of the away ticketing.
They have scored a lot of goals but looking through them, there were some right spawny efforts.
2-1 to us with a barely mysterious run on cider in the Stadium Suite.

Just off to Admiralty with my trusty umbrella - protects against pepper spray, teargas and, hopefully, government-sponsored* triads.
I shall have my phone with me and will be looking for good news from Welsh.
1-0, and Welsh_Saddler's first win of the season.
Now, where's my reinforced bowler hat?
* allegedly

Same team as v Donny.
Agree bar Flanagan, after last weeks showing we need to give the lad a break. He just isn't ready to start games yet. Clifford should have come in.

Surprised Flanagan is in from the start for this one.
Brizzles team :Fielding, Little, Bryan, Ayling, Flint, Williams, Smith, Elliott, Freeman, Agard, Wilbraham.
Bloody good side that is.

Re: Bristol City (H) League One, Sat 4th October 3.00pm
Elsewhere, the early kick-off could well underline Nigel Clough's need for a strong defender/captain....Sheffield United currently 3-1 down at Chesterfield. Both sides down to 10 men, Higdon (Blades) and Lee (Chesterfield's goalkeeper) being sent off in separate incidents!!!
(Edit..... Full time 3-2)
Back to Bescot, and the match odds at kick-off have Bristol City as 5/4 favourites, with a home win or draw both at 2/1.

Afrer only 1 minute, Butler has a shot from the centre of the box saved by their goalkeeper......Sallian would be pleased, we're attacking!!!
Elsewhere, an early goal sees Peterborough 0 Oldham Athletic 1 (Forte, 5 min)
Edit...... Rochdale 0 Barnsley 1 (10 min)
After 10 minutes Bristol City are leading 4-0 (in fouls, that is)

Agard booked.
Edit... Preston's equaliser against mighty Colchester, coupled with Scunthorpe 1 Doncaster 0 pushes us two places up the table!!!
Further edit - Preston now 2-1 up at home to Colchester.
