Scunthorpe United (A) League One 30th Aug, 3pm
A trip to the far East (of Lincolnshire) to try tippy-tappy against the Iron. Scunthorpe's form is, if anything, worse than ours... although the win at Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup shouldn't be overlooked. Their results this season:-
Aug 9 Swindon Town (A) League One Lost 3-1
Aug 12 Blackburn Rovers (A) League Cup 1st round Won 0-1
Aug 16 Preston North End (H) League One Lost 0-4
Aug 19 Fleetwood (H) League One Lost 0-2
Aug 23 Yeovil Town (A) League One Drew 1-1
Aug 26 Reading (H) League Cup 2nd round Lost 0-1
Russ Wilcox took over as Manager last November when the club sacked Brian Laws, and he proceeded to create a League record by taking Scunthorpe 24 games without defeat. That was in League Two however, and they've found life a little more challenging following promotion. They've had their problems with injuries since the start of this campaign, losing midfielder David Syers for the whole season, and goalkeeper Severn for two months. The goalkeeping situation has seen Bobby Olejnik signed from Peterborough on a month's loan, and recently Nicky Featherstone has been taken on, on a week-by-week basis.
If ever there was a game we should win, this was it. The combination of Scunthorpe's awful home League form (Played 2, Lost 2, goal difference 0-6) coupled with our slightly better away League form (Played 2, Drawn 2, goal difference 1-1) indicates three points for the taking, especially when our new striker signing Manset is part of the squad.
Having said that, I thought the same before the Yeovil game......... :(
Forecast? Let's carry on being optimistic, and go for a 1-3 away win, with Manset (2) and Bradshaw for us. :D

Scunthorpe United 2-0 Walsall.
Plenty of possession and chances to win the game. Smith able to take positives from defeat.

Re: Scunthorpe United (A) League One 30th Aug, 3pm
This will be the start of our winless run because the previous winless games don't count because they don't and that includes last season because it's nothing to do with Smith or his tactics or players and it's all down to bad referees, bad luck, poor pitches and opposition players cheating and scoring goals etc etc.............
Scunthorpe 1 Walsall 3 - This will be the start of our three season unbeaten run to the Premiership.
Take your pick

Walsall to win 2-1 and the Premier League style hysteria to subside for a week.
Or lose 2-1 and all out war declared on UTS on the "Smith Out" thread.
Actually the latter sounds like a loff.
I'll stick with a win. Bradshaw with both.

Both teams to meet before the match and agree a morale-boosting 4-4 draw.
They won't even bother to play the match and send some recycled footage to the Football League Show.
Our goals from Cuvelier, Deeney, O'Kelly and Gilbert Alsop, theirs by Odejayi, Billy Sharp, Kevin Keegan and Ian Botham.

Do they still play in that cack soulless tin stadium
I heard they were building a new 18 million pound stadium similar to NY stadium.

Wouldn't need the hostipal my friend, to witness a score like that I would have dropped dead on the spot!
I do however think we may sneak a 2-0 victory, in which case I may still be alive come 5 o'clock,
but in need of a VERY stiff drink!

Only Walsall FC could make an inferior version of such a crappy stadium. At least they still have a terrace behind the goal. Ahhhhh those were the days.
How much is their rent by the way?

If Manset doesn't score a hat trick before diving into the away end and beating me senseless I will be asking for my money back.
1-0 Scunthorpe. (Torpey 90+7.)

My first game of the season will see a scintillating display of fast, incisive, one touch football that stuns the traveling support by its breathtaking brilliance ...well perhaps not, still after listening to the commentaries and reading some of the doom and gloom on here I am still really looking forward to it.
I'll settle for a 1.0 win for the saddlers ( pen 87th minute- Evran Wright)

1-0 to Scunthorpe, Holden bicycle kick O.G in the 90th+90 minute with only two men on the pitch from Walsall (due to horrific injuries to our entire squad apart from Holden and Sawyers.)
Smith to say the own goal was offside and to kiss Romaine multiple times on the left earlobe.
Deano will say the squad is full of quality youngsters and will play the U9's team next game who will destroy our opposition 33-0, a hat trick for each player.

Woke up this morning(slightly hungover!!) to a beautiful day in Lincolnshire.
A trip to the tip then off to the not so stunning Scunny to see a more than welcome 2-0 victory,
O Donnell with a long punt direct from kick off & 98th minute header from a Jeff Peron corner.

What sort of 'injuries' are Cook & Mantom carrying? Broken backs? Amputated leg perhaps?
Does it REALLY take this long to get fit professional footballers back on a pitch?
perhaps I am being naive, but in my days unless you were on crutches, you turned out for your team, mind you our gym master WAS a sadist!
Meanwhile back in the real world, I hope the lads don't let us down again today, it's a must win, after only four matches! So come on monsieur Manset (anyone know how to pronounce his last name incidentally?) swing that third leg my son! :) :)

What is it with us at the moment? J Chambers replaced by Holden, clearly the injury hasn't cleared up.
I fear Holden will be first choice CB for some weeks/months now.
