Bradford City - League One (H) August 16th, 3pm
We welcome the Bantams to Fortress Bescot for our first home League One game this season. Bradford are managed by Phil Parkinson who, besides receiving an award for "Outstanding Managerial Performance" has guided his side to a Wembley final only last year, the first ever for a fourth tier team. It's worth recalling that their semi-final over two legs was against Aston Villa, where they suitably embarrassed Paul Lambert.
In their first League One game this season, Bradford overcame Coventry City 3-2. In the first round of the Capital One Cup they won again, this time at Morecambe, 0-1. So we have a 100% record to smash!
Looking to strengthen their squad, Parkinson has taken striker Mason Bennett on loan until January from Derby County. Bennett is only 18 years of age, but has represented England at u-19 level and was Derby's youngest ever player and goalscorer.
By the same token we will have our latest signing Anthony Forde available as we come to the game fresh from our win at Southend.
Prediction?? A bit tricky, but I think a home 2-1 result is not beyond the bounds of possibility. Bradshaw and Grimes to score.

Good job Kyle Reid dosen't play for them anymore, who have Bradford replaced him with.
And Big Hanson scored two excellent goals at the weekend so he'll give Downing a very tough afternoon.
2-2.

1-0 slender victory. Grimes with a clinical finish from the edge of the box in the first half, backs against the wall for the rest of the game but O'Donnell having a blinder and us maintaining a high line to stop the crosses to Hanson being of any real use. Bradford get a goal disallowed and Bradshaw will hit the post.

Theyve sold a load of tickets again this year so there should be a decent atmosphere like last season.
Ill go for a 1-1 draw. They will score from a corner.

I fancy Bradford for the top 10 this season, so I think this will really put us not only to the test but give us an idea of where we are as a side. Hanson is huge, probably one of the best lower league target men going so were either going to need O'Donnell, or the defence to have a blinder. They regard Andrew Davies as one of their legends, so it will be interesting to see his performance. Is MacLean fit? On to us, it seems Cook is ready to start training and with Mantom already in training alongside Purkiss we may see some starting faces back on the bench.
I'd be tempted to drop Grimes and play with someone who will cover O'Connor, we won't keep getting away with it down that side. Give Bradshaw an hour and then bring Grimes on - not sure he suits a single role though, doesn't seem a willing runner. We will see. Benning has to retain his place? Where will Forde fit in after Morris's winner the other night? He will be chomping at the bit. Nice to see some selection worries for Smith, I think we have some good attacking options - except for right wing.
I'll go with a 2-2 draw or a slender 1-2 defeat with the defence struggling infront of a big away following.
Should see well over 5k there IMO.

A 3-1 defeat, in front of 4,575, including 1,050 from Bradford. A pretty even game, but two late goals in front of their travelling fans will win it for them. Grimes scoring for us.

They worry me cause Hanson could murder our defence on his day and if we have a first half like at Port Vale they will be 4 up.
Not just him either they have Billy Clarke and Aaron Mclean, Alan Sheehan, its a very tidy squad they have.
Only going cause i wanna see the new scoreboard anyway....

Never mind about a new scoreboard, when are we going to get a replay telly up one corner or whatever? Some teams in our division have had them for years.
I'll go for a close game:
5 - 4 to us ('cos I am constitutionally unable to predict a defeat for us).
:?

2-1 us. 2 up early through Grimes and Bradshaw... Hansen pulls one back second half and we have all 11 men in the penalty area but surprisingly hold on.

That's a good one.
Now can we have similar rhyming slang phrases (with hemiteleian word indicated, please, in brackets) for all the commonest scores?
A Cannon (Ball) - one all?

Don't know why we should be worried about Bradford. According to th E&S matchday page we are "in the capital to face Leyton Orient"................ sigh.

Bradford commentary team coming across loud and clear on Player.
Far better option than Mick Kearns' incessant interruptions and countless adverts for z-list comedians and run of the mill tribute acts.

Elsewhere, Troy Deeney will have his work cut out today as Watford are down to 10 men after 2 minutes........
...and the Bagladies are 0-1 behind at home to Sunderland, 4 minutes.
Elsewhere in League One, we have Bristol City 0 Colchester United 1 (8 minutes)
and pnethor will be pleased... Scunthorpe 0 Preston North End 1 (16 min)
Oldham Athletic 1 Leyton Orient 0 (15 min)... that man Forte again!.....(edit that, it's now 1-1)
Crewe Alex 1 Barnsley 0 (21 min)....goals all over the place except Bescot!!

Keeping track of League One..... Doncaster 0 Port Vale 1 (26 min)
...and Gillingham 1 Yeovil Town 0 (35 min)
Scunners helping Preston with an own goal, making it 0-2
Doncaster 0 Port Vale 3 now......
Chesterfield 1 Rochdale 0 - making Chesterfield the only team with 6 points at this stage.
Yellow card for Bradford City's Liddle.
Posh 1 MK Dons 0 on the stroke of half-time, putting Peterborough on 6 points.
At the same time, Notts County 0 Fleetwood 1. That's Fleetwood also on 6 points.

Bradford City Cloggers of the weekend, a foul every 4 minutes and only 1 booking. If last weeks ref had been today they would not have had much of a team left on the pitch.
