A trip to Essex for this first round match in the League Cup, and aren't we due a cup run? :D

Southend, managed by Phil Brown, started their League 2 campaign with a 0-1 win at Accrington courtesy of an 85th minute penalty converted by Lee Barnard, who signed a one-year deal on leaving Southampton.

No real form to help judge the outcome of this game, but much may depend on whether Walsall are able to get any previously-injured players on to the pitch (Cook, Mantom), and also whether any striker deals are finalised in the next day or two (Manset).

Let's be optimistic, and go for a 0-2 away win, goals from Grimes and Benning. :D

I'll be there, and personally hope that Deano gives Morris a chance on the wing and pushes Grimes to the centre, Baxo on the bench for Clifford. Personally I want to see how we play without Sawyers because he is so fudge frustrating at times.

I would rest Sawyers, but not based on his last game just to keep him fit for Bradford. If we start off with a high tempo like the second half at Vale then we will do very well.
