Re: Port Vale - League One (a) 9th August 3pm
To Mr Funk - Port Vale are currently a bit bigger than us in terms of support and resources, but not by much. I certainly don't automatically expect us to lose to them or see us as inferior to them on or off the field.
My expectations are not that low. And yours shouldn't be either.
that said, I'll take the draw NOW  .

It's a take on JOKE. The area is Stoke, so I have cleverly replaced the 't' with 'j'.
Intelligent stuff eh. It derives from our previously intense rivalry with Sjoke City. Some European team

Clifford on for Baxendale, 70min.......
Elsewhere, MK Dongs have come from 0-2 behind to be 3-2 up at home to Gillingham.
(Edit - now 4-2 thanks to a Gills o.g.)

These kids Eh! about 55 years for me, proper leather balls with laces, and proper football boots with toe caps and murderous studs, not like the carpet slippers they wear today! All the adults wore hats and used to give us a clip round the ear for using our rattles and banging on the hoardings around Fellows Park....2/6 to get in I seem to recall......Ah those were the days... :)
It`s around 55 years for me as well, walking down from Palfrey with my parents and brother. Being allowed to go in front of the adults down to the wall so we could see. Those were the days. :) :)
Palfrey was my stomping ground too!

Are you even bothering to listen to the game? Do you have any idea how much we are on top?
Some users on this site are a disgrace, listening to the Vale commentators saying how impressed they are with us and then you come on a Walsall board with supposedly Walsall 'fans' and see drivel like this.
Disgusting.

Note the 'naughty police' have been 'editing' my posts again.....only stating a fact you know!
(Mod - stating a fact is one thing.....putting your own (racially biased?) slant on it is another. We don't want to stir up any hornets' nests, now do we?)
(Actually, I thought it was an amusing piece of wordplay, but it would have raised hackles elsewhere - (mod again))

Incorrect. You were giving your negative opinion on the assembled squad.
Not a fact at all.
Great result sounds like we deserved to take all 3 points!

Not in a position to listen to the game, have to rely on words written down.
How many times have we been on top and lost because of the lack of goal scoring ability.
Yes it was a good turnout and a good result.

According to Vale's expert analyst our Midfield gave Vale the run around for the whole 90 minutes but with much more noticeable success in the second half. He also says Romaine Sawyers was the big difference.
Look forward to seeing some reports from the people at the game :)

A good point, and could have got all 3 if the twitter reports are anything to go by.
We still need to strengthen, but an encouraging start by the sounds of it.
Now, let's hope Manset signs....
edit - 1,145 Saddlers in a decent attendance of 7,050.

Not a bad result.....
On positive side, a goal in open play, didn't lose, came back, goal for debut striker...might give him confidence to score more
I expect Butler to be a big loss that costs a bit...
Bradshaw, Grimes, Bakayoko, BaXendale.....can create and score goals though I think....so expect a significant improvement from last season
BaXendale can make things happen I think...not sure about SAwyers, maybe he will improve with better quality around him this season
I guess Manset won't happen
still not enough shots on goal today though....I expected more and thought they were gonna score at least two.....give them higher aspiration and greater expectations would help.....strikers should aim to score 5 every match, not 15 in a whole season

I expect the exciting World Cup with the best team for the last 6 years (withe best style of play too) winning has encouraged football attendance figures across the whole of football

Good solid start. I would have taken that before the start.
So many negative comments on this board at the moment. I was half expecting a 5-0 drubbing!

If you're referring to Bath Saddler's post, his actual words were that "Port Vale are a bit bigger than Walsall in terms of support and resources".
Perfectly fair comment, i think.
If the game had been at Bescot do you honestly think we would have got a 7,500 gate? Not a chance.

All I have noticed is nobody wants to engage with you on any level.
So why don't you take all of your various pseudonyms/split personalties and talk with them before you ruin the board again for everyone else?

Re: Port Vale - League One (a) 9th August 3pm
Very much a tale of two halves, the first half we utter guff. Couldnt pass, could tackle, and couldnt defend basic hoofball. After 30 minutes i had decided that O Connor was a bald cack bag, he was all over the shop, and Sawyers was so bad i started to laugh.
Port Vale's goal should never have happened, but they were all playing like gommos at this point, and all Pope had to do was tap in from 2 yards.
Second half we were superb, went direct to Benning and they cack it, Port Vale dropped deep and this just allowed us to play more, we should have won in the end. Second half we defended properly and well, the wingers who tore the full backs apart first half were reduced to nothing, O Connor is no longer a bald cack bag. We still need another CB altho i was quite impressed with Chambers efforts second half.
Baxendale was sexual, back in the middle where he belongs. Grimes and Bradshaw played well and Benning and Taylor were joint MOTM for me.
Sawyers was absolutely abysmal today, bar a 20 min spell in the second half where he was running the show. Frustrating beyond belief.
Lots to be worried about, but lots to be pleased about too.
Our support was superb, top notch, Port Vales was an embarrassment.
O Donnell - Dealt with everything but a dodgy scuffed cross for their goal, id have to see it again on tv first though.
O Connor - a tale of two halves.
Chambers - worked well second half, first half a bit dodgy.
Downing - Played well, but in the first half Pope had him for breakfast.
Taylor - We love him dont we? Class.
A Chambers - Quality.
Baxendale - I love him.
Sawyers - Shocking one minute, brilliant the next. More shocking than brilliant today, but you would never want to take him off the pitch.
Benning - Very capable on the wing, also a player im starting to love. He should never play left back again.
Grimes - Very impressed actually. Moved well, looks comfy on the ball.
Bradshaw - Worked tirelessly, decent movement, impressed me too.
Subs
Clifford - Only came on for 20 mins but you know, he is just quality.
Bakayoko - Looks nervous and lost.
