Port Vale (A) League One 5 Apr, 3.00pm
A trip to darkest clay-land on Saturday (not to mention a long slog of a walk for the brave souls raising funds in memory of WPC Julie Skidmore) to face Port Vale. This will be our third meeting with them this season and so far we're one win apiece, the 0-2 League defeat at home cancelling out our 1-2 victory at Vale Park in the League Cup. There are some enforced changes on Saturday of course - we have no leading scorer in Craig Westcarr, and Vale will have to do without defender Chris Robertson who was sent off in tonight's game at home to Crawley. (He also happens to be their 4th highest scorer with 6 goals to his name this season). Vale's current form:
11 Mar Leyton Orient (H) Lost 0-2
16 Mar Coventry City (A) Drew 2-2
22 Mar Tranmere Rovers (H) Won 3-2
25 Mar Bristol City (A) Lost 5-0
29 Mar Stevenage (A) Drew 1-1
1 Apr Crawley (H) Won 2-1
Those 6 games have a neat sequence about them....LDWLDW which suggests that they're due another "L". :D As far as goalscoring ability goes, they have three main threats in the shape of Pope (14 goals), Loft and Myrie-Williams (9 goals each). It's possible that we may be able to keep the lid on those dangers, but the big unanswered question for us is "Where are our goals coming from?". Baxendale got one of our goals in the League Cup game back in November, but Ashley Hemmings got the other - in the absence of any emergency loan signings it would appear to be not so much a selection dilemma but more of "Hobson's choice", specially if Lalkovic is still not available. So it's either Hewitt or Ngoo to start (or even both to start) with possibly Bakayoku making the bench.
However, the momentum we seem to have gained from the current 5-game unbeaten run leads me to believe we can grind out another 3 points from this one with a straight repeat of the League Cup 1-2 win..... Baxendale and Mantom with their names on the scoresheet.
(Edit...Vale's Chris Robertson has had his red card overturned but it's been transferred to midfielder team-mate Chris Lines, who must now serve a four match ban as he had already been sent off this season.)

I've got a feeling we'll win this one 2-1 - Hewitt (don't laugh) and Mantom.
Thought Pope looked a handful at home but it is interesting to see he hasn't scored as many as our rubbish forward Westcarr. I actually thought they were tactically spot on at our place, defending well and hitting us on the counter, and so it will be interesting how they approach this game.

At last! Give the lad a chance with the bigun's, nowt to play for now, so lets start blooding a few youngsters.
Not sure how to call this one, hope we come away with a win, possibly 1-0 (but it will have to be an own goal of course!)
Hope WAW and Belg have a great time on their 'walk' for charity.

Re: Port Vale (A) League One 5 Apr, 3.00pm
Surprisingly (as last week) we seem to be favourites to win this one  .....SkyBet pre-match odds are:
Port Vale to win.......... 13/5
The draw.................. 11/5
Walsall to win............ 21/20
It appears that a few people have more confidence in our Westcarr-less potential than I do..... :?

Starting line-up against Port Vale:
O'Donnell
Chambers
Taylor
Chambers
Butler
Downing
Brandy
Mantom
Ngoo
Sawyers
Baxendale
Substitutes: Purkiss, Featherstone, Lalkovic, Lewis, Hewitt, McQuilkin, Bakayoko
Looks as though Lalkovic isn't fully match-fit.

Gutted not to be at Vale Park today, only a few miles down the road.
Had to pick up my son from the airport, bloody flight was late otherwise I'd have made it
Listening to Radio Stoke's live commentary, sounds like Vale are on top.

According to the BBC website, Port Vale have had 60% of the possession in the first 20 minutes - unusual, that. :?
