Two very youthful line-ups played out an entertaining game. Interesting to see Hemmings at left-back for the Saddlers! He performed quite well there, too. Obviously, Walsall were taking no chances with injuries to first choice players with a hectic March programme coming up while league leaders Wigan fielded their U21 development team. The visitors offered very little threat in attack, managing only one shot in the first half from Guillermo Andres, which brought out a fine save from Liam Roberts. To be fair, the Saddlers only offered an occasional threat themselves but found Marko Marosi, in the Wigan goal, in good form. The game was decided in the 65th minute when a fine move saw Troy Hewitt set up Danny Griffiths to finish with a fine shot - this on a ground where he spent a spell on loan, recently, of course.
