Comments
The Reserves showed the first team how to make their superiority count in terms of the scoreline. Three goals in three minutes, shortly before half-time, appeared to have wrapped the game up but the Plastic Scousers pulled a couple of goals back and looked as if they might make a game of it. However, a late flurry of goals set the seal on an entertaining performance. Highlight of the game was a hat-trick of superb shots from McQuilkin (remember him?). Looking at the likes of Purkiss, George, Preston and Benning - these are players who should be playing regular first-team football at a decent level but such is the form of Messrs. Chambers, Butler, Downing and Taylor that their chances are very limited. Maybe, once the Youth Team are out of the F.A. Youth Cup, the better youth players can step up and George, Preston and Benning could go out on short-term loans, somewhere.
Finally, Tranmere had a Sodje (another one!). As Asps might say - are we the only club that's never had a Sodje?
