Rotherham United (H) League One, Sat 21st Sep 3pm

Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:14 pm

Well, after tonight's deep joy at overcoming Wolves at the Custard Bowl in their Cup Final, it's back down to earth on Saturday when the Millers are our visitors. In his post-match comments Dean Smith rightly said that Rotherham have to be respected - they're unbeaten in the League and above us in the table. Their last six games:

14 Sep Oldham Athletic (H) Won 3-2
7 Sep Sheffield United (H) Won 3-1
31 Aug Notts County (A) Won 1-0
24 Aug Shrewsbury Town (H) Drew 2-2
17 Aug Crawley Town (A) Won 2-1
10 Aug Preston North End (H) Drew 0-0

The danger man for Rotherham would appear to be Daniel Nardiello - he's scored 5 goals so far. Other scorers are Agard and Frecklington, both on 3. It's worth pointing out, however, that their most recent win (Oldham) was achieved against a backdrop of Oldham having 10 men for 50 minutes of the game.

Rotherham's manager is Steve Evans, and the descriptions "colourful" or "controversial" seem to fit him. He was appointed on a 3 year contract in April last year, having previously managed Crawley and Boston United. Sent from the dugout on numerous occasions, he received a 10 match ban in 2008/9. Back in his Boston United days he was fined £8,000 for financial irregularities concerning statements of players' salaries made to the tax authorities. In November 2006 he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to evade tax and was fined £1,000. After a bad-tempered match between Bradford and Crawley he was alleged to have dropped his trousers to a female member of Bradford's staff, which pleased the tabloid press no end!!

Enough of this muck-raking......if we play to anything like our potential we should be able to win this, say by 2-1. Westcarr and Hewitt for us.

The C word I'd use to describe Evans isn't controversial or colourful.....it's cheat. And then another, that rhymes with runt.

Anyway 10-0 to the Saddlers. Butler with 9, and an own goal.

Top of the world, aye it.

A very tame 1-1 after the Lord Mayor's Show.
Steve Evans to guest on Newsnight Review discussing fine art, classical music and poetry with Germaine Greer, Mark Kermode and the transvestite sculptor.
He gets sent off when a debate about the Russian Romantics and the Big Five gets heated.
Anyway, where would Borodin fit in a 4-3-2-1 formation?

Part of me thinks it will be a one all come down, but sod it, 2-0 to us. Hewitt and Mantom with not one reference of Wolves to be made at all. :D

Hopefully a few will get down there as well - they deserve it for the last two games.

The only thing I have to worry about is, the last time we had an away game on the Saturday previous (Brentford - Crewe last week) and then a tough 'give it your all' away game the Tuesday (Sjoke - Wolves this week) - we lost 3-0 at home to Preston where we looked tired and lethargic. I saw on Hemmings Twitter that they have the day off today so hopefully that helps, I think Smith might change his plans slightly this week if he has learnt anything. Rotherham have a very strong midfield and rely on Alex Revell's scuffing up centre halfs to provide for Nardiello. The midfield 3 and Butler will need to be on top form if we are to win this, but I think we can win the game. After 2 wins in 1 week, I'd definetely take a point against an unbeaten team.

I'll go for a tight and predominantly dull 1-1, with Butler for us and Ben Pringle for them.
Rotherham have sold 400 already and it's pay on the day, so I'd expect a good 1000 from them, which is decent.
It's a family day isn't it?

Beating Wolves on their own patch, followed by a Rotherham side unbeaten in six, would be a real statement of intent.

That said, this one will be really hard. I'll go for a 1-1 draw, which wouldn't be a bad result.

I can see a hard battle and a 1-1 draw.

Tell everyone who has even a slight interest in Walsall FC that this is a game where an adult and up to 2 kids can go in the middle/upper tier for a bargain £10. That is a fantastic offer from the club and deserves a big response. The players sure deserve a bigger crowd and a decent atmosphere after Tuesdays effort

I'll go for a calming 2-2
Trevor Wood to save a last min penatly & throw the ball straight to Mr Keister who sprints up the field (accidently taking a couple of casualties with him) & smashes into the back of the net. This after John Hodge had given us the lead in the first half.
Watch this space I've never made an incorrect prediction all season or last. I'm quite a roll really

Aye, got mine. 3 of us for a tenner, great value. Although I hope the queue to pick them up isn't as bad as the last one against Sheff United last season.

Could be the second leg of a great treble; end Wolves unbeaten run on Tuesday, Rotherham's on Saturday, and then end Leyton Orient's 100% start the following Saturday (actually hope they win this weekend just so it can be us that ends it next week).

C'mon me babbies!!!

Decent record - but they've played some right gash.

After the lord mayor's show indeed, but we can take them. A mixed bag and a 2-2 draw at the end of it.

Work with a dingle and a miller, so another result would be sweet as.

Keep the same formation or go with something a bit more incisive, being at home?

Stick or twist?

Would love a hat trick of victories but think the curse of the Family fun day may strike again!
Heart says 2-O victory, head will be happy with a draw as Rotherham are above us and unbeaten in the League.

Wins aganst Rotherham and Orient will show our intent, and with the confidence high after the last two games, who knows?

If we want to seriously challenge for the top 6 we should be looking to take 4 points from both games.

You only get three points for a win, so eight points from two games might be a touch optimistic. Mind you, maybe the League will start giving us an extra point for artistic merit.

After all the exertions of Tuesday, I think a draw would be a decent result. However, with confidence pretty high, I see no reason why we can't win this one.

So, a 3-1 win, with goals from Westcarr, A Chambers and Baxendale in front of 5,166, including 958 Millers.

Should be a decent game against a side that are strong and have a bit of cash. Expect a decent gate there aswell with the offer on that people have mentioned. Think the lads will still be buzzing from the last 2 performances, especially Tuesday night, and think that will be enough to get us the 3 points. Can't see us conceeding, our back 4 are like a brick wall. 2-0 (Westcarr and Hewitt), over 5k there with around 1000 millers.

No need to change the side on Saturday, keep the midfield trio, keep it tight no need to attack Rotherham from the off.

Nick a 1-0 win

Watch our for the curse of the award striking us........ Dean Smith has earned the League Managers' Association 's "Performance of the Week" award following the win over Wolves.

Speaking of the Wolves, they're 66 minutes into their early kick-off at Shrewsbury and holding the mighty Sloppies 0-0.

Team news against Rotherham to follow.
