Preston North End (H) League One Sat 31st Aug 3pm
Fixtures coming thick and fast at present and on Saturday we welcome the Lillywhites of Preston North End, currently unbeaten in the League having drawn all four of their matches so far. Preston's last six competitive games have seen these results:
3rd August, League One 0-0 at home to Wolves
5th August, League Cup 1st round 1-0 at home to Blackpool
10th August, League One 0-0 away at Rotherham
17th August, League One 2-2 at home to MK Dons
25th August, League One 4-4 away at Coventry (Northampton)
27th August, League Cup 2nd round 0-2 away at Burnley
Preston's current manager is Simon Grayson, who was appointed in February this year. They've had some management changes (sackings) in six years, with the appointments and departures of Alan Irvine, Darren Ferguson, Phil Brown and Graham Westley before Grayson got the poisoned chalice earlier this year. Their biggest close season signing has been that of Kevin Davies (ex-Bolton and England) who joined with a 2-year contract having been released by Bolton Wanderers at the age of 36.
Playing formation may be a little difficult to follow - Grayson played a 3-4-1-2 style at Burnley in the 0-2 League Cup defeat on Tuesday this week. He's also had some injury problems in the squad, amongst them Jack King their versatile midfielder currently out for 2 months with a stress fracture of the foot.
We've been doing well against Preston in recent seasons despite the attentions of pnethor (who's notable by his absence these days)....and I think we can get back to winning ways with a repeat of the Tranmere result - 3-1 to the Saddlers, goals from Lalkovic, Westcarr and Sawyers.

Cant remember seeing us lose to Preston, if we can beat them though i have that down as a good result.
I smell a draw here though, a boring one. 0-0.

A 1-1 draw, in front of 4,744, including 1,040 from PNE.
Sawyers for us.

2-0 to us. Westcarr and Mantom (I back him every week and he never does).
Thor and Kev to have a stink off at half time.

The odds on a draw here have to be pretty short, surely. Saying that, these are the games we need to be winning if we want to aim for the top six.
I'll go for an optimistic 2-1 home win. Sawyers and Westcarr with the goals.

Sounds silly so early in the season, but we could really do with a win today. The way we play demands confidence. Confidence comes from getting results. We saw last year how, when confidence dips, young players who are being told to play pass and move football can be affected when the results stop and confidence drops.
Also a defeat today could see the return of Cully's form guide (it would read DLLL) and we don't want to see that.
So a nice 2-0 win would be lovely. Crowd will be 3,750 Saddlers plus whatever they bring (around a thousand).

Agree, we still have a bit of a feel good factor going on, especially after our excellent second half performance at Stoke. Would like to keep it that way, so a nice win would do nicely. Don't fancy a defeat, or a win we turn in to a draw much, doesn't take much with our lot for the doom and gloom to begin.

It doesn't sound silly when the next two League games are the Dingles away, followed by Crewe away.

Apparentley, Crewe will be fielding a team of WAGs that have come through their Academy this time, so I really hope we win.

Preston have 2 corners in the first 7 minutes.
Coventry take the lead at Shrewsbury, wiping out their 10 point deduction as things stand.
Leyton Orient (unstoppable so far) take the lead at Colchester.
Edit.....in the first 17 minutes Preston have had 5 corners  - are we under a bit of pressure, or what?
(little edit.... Ryan Jarvis scores for York, at Exeter)

Stevenage 1-0 up at home to Bradford

From the looks of it we have rarely got out of our own half! Hope it ain't a Posh scoreline for 'em, would be VERY demoralising! :(

Kevin Davies booked for a foul on Sam Manton
(He then proceeds to foul Andy Butler 2 minutes later)
Half-time, Walsall 0 PNE 1 - a bit of a mountain to climb. Impact sub anyone?

The first half statistics tell the story:
Shots........Walsall 3 PNE 6
On target...Walsall 0 PNE 4
Corners......Walsall 2 PNE 6
Fouls.........Walsall 4 PNE 8
We're supposed to be the home team.
Edit... Swindon now 4-0 against Crewe.
55 minutes gone, and we haven't had a shot on target yet. Not one. What do our strikers do in training?????

It just had to happen..... 0-2 now, 58 min. :(
To compound the misery, the Dingles are 0-1 up at Port Fail.
60 minutes, Sawyers on for Hemmings. Too little, too late ???

3-0.
Reinforcements needed.
Over to you Walsall football club. Will they respond or be dynamic and do something about things soon?
Why?
1. We don't want to lose any of the positivity surrounding the club after the summer and last season.
2. We don't want to slump like we did last year and see players go into their shells.

Something needs to be done - we're now in the bottom half of the table.
64 min.... Featherstone on for Westcarr
64 min.... Andy Taylor on for Malvind Benning
Edit - Crawley go 0-2 up at Peterborough
and Swindon now 5-0 up at home to Crewe

72 minutes, and we've had our FIRST on-target effort, causing the PNE keeper to make a save. Who was the wonder striker responsible? Andy Taylor :?
