Still, it does not really matter, but I make this our 4th defeat in a row [if you include the additional friendly with Florist].

Would you want players picking up injuries tonight & miss Saturday? You'd then be saying why did we play our first xi so close to the start of the season

Your opinion would hold some water if it was not for the fact that the entire team [bar Ben George] has been replaced at half time. All for experimental reasons I'm sure, along with giving most of the squad 'match time'. Its obvious the management did not want this match so close to the start of the season and are trying to get the most out of it practice wise, but even so, I would have chosen some semblance of a starting XI.

Nothing to get too upset about, but fear of injuries has nothing to do with it.

Deano said he didn't want this game on this date at Meet The Manager. If it plays the policing bill it's worth it, but other than that there's no way the team are gonna give 100% this close to the real matches.

Best part about tonight (other than financial) is that we don't appear to have picked up any injuries on the night.

Andy Taylor didn't play, so might be doubtful for Tranmere.

7,720 at £10-£12. Most of the way to the policing bill, mixed squad played which will keep fringe players fit, couldn't give a monkey nip over the result. No injuries, some squad fitness and a few premier league players on display. Happy days.

Edit - I suspect Taylor wouldn't have played purely because he's frequently injured and has a long history of injuries. Against the pace of Weimann/Agbonlahor I'm sure DS didn't want too risk him.

Not so sure - you could say the same about Adam Chambers.

Correction..

Better to lose 0-5 to Villa than some obscure small club!

Probably the most enjoyable 5-0 loss I've ever been to.Went with a VIlla fan friend and his kids but constantly reminded him throughout that their first team were playing a mostly Saddlers reserve side.
The pluses --some of the kids did quite well against premier leagues opposition. The minuses --where are the goals going to come from and both keepers looked poor in comparison to Johnstone. Please no more Brain/Grof type keepers.

As i said to Locky, it may seem silly after playing Forest and Villa but I do worry about where the goals are going to come from. Also can see Lalkovic being annoying especially if he's going to keep throwing himself on the floor like he did tonight trying to win a penalty.

Yeah not great tonight but if any 5-0 dickings are due I'd rather them be is pre season. Shame it happened to be against such a barclays club with such barclays fans. Many of whom had a shorter journey home than me.

Oh well, I hear many hotel bookings have been made tonight for cup final weekends so at least the economy will get a boost.

Not brilliant.....but I ain't panicking yet.

And Villa still ain't beat us in a meaningful match since 1930 :D .

Missed the fust goal because I was waiting with ticket in hand , at a ticket only turnstile , because loads of people in front of me are paying with cash :x :x :x

On the bright side............it only took 40 minutes to get off the car park.

That was without doubt, the most pointless game of football I've ever been to. Expected that to be the case though, and only went because I work with a Villa fan who fancied going.

We played a reserve side and barely touched the ball.

Highlights were:
Realising the average Villa fan doesn't have two brain cells to rub together.
Feeling satisfied that, essentially, 5,000 Villa fans buying a ticket has potentially funded a new signing.
Seeing my name on the new 125 memorial.
Applauding Sir Ray at half time.

Went to the game, as I fancied seeing how we shape up against a team from the Prem.

I was a bit shocked to be honest and expected it to be a bit more of a competition, especially given our giant killing pedigree. If I'm honest, you could see the massive gulf in class between League One and the Prem. Oh well roll on the FA cup. Hopefully we can draw another of the big boys like United, although I wouldn't give us much of a chance against Fergie's boys.

We had half a team out, with a load of kids, playing at half of their normal game because they don't want to get injured or knackered before the real game this Saturday.

Having said that Villa were very impressive, and the gulf in class is represented by the gulf in wages, that the abortion of the Premier League that Sky have created. Giant killing tradition is generally outdated, thanks to them.

Although we can assume that the dog will be fully rested and available for selection on Saturday, Ronnie.

Think our tag of Giant Killers died out sometime in the 80s anyway. Apart from one season under Big Fat Jan, our record in the cups has been woeful for years. Did "Okay" Under Colin Lee too I guess, although not sure it counts as giant killing so much when you start in the 3rd round.

I was on a stag do in Berlin this weekend and a Villa fan piped up in a pub like he'd won the World Cup.
