Scunthorpe United (A) League One 13/4/13

Fri Apr 12, 2013 9:53 am

Apologies to Duke - not meaning to tread on his toes, but perhaps he's otherwise occupied......

Off to Scunny on Saturday, who are flirting with danger in the relegation zone. They are currently 21st (just in the mire) level with Oldham Athletic on 41 points from 42 games played.

Their home record this season so far: Played 21, Won 6, Drawn 5, Lost 10. Goals 27-36.

Last six games:

Lost 3-0 at Preston, April 6th
Lost 1-0 at Bournemouth, April 1st
Won 2-1 home to Leyton Orient, March 29th
Lost 2-3 home to Doncaster, March 23rd
Lost 1-0 at Notts County, March 16th
Lost 1-2 home to Coventry City, March 9th

Prediction: In their position they should be fighting for their lives, and they have the confidence (possibly misplaced now) of having turned us over at the Banks's 1-4 what seems years ago. I think we can make use of having Ibragriggovitch back and win 1-2.

Because i'm crap at predicting results (especially predicting Walsall wins) i'll go for Scunthorpe 1 Walsall 0 and hope i'm wrong again! :)

A very tough one this, with Scunny in a battle to avoid the final relegation spot with Oldham and they will also have a bigger than usual backing with the £5 offer for home fans.

Their one win over the last few weeks was at home to Leyton Orient who are in a similar position to us, so we should be wary of them.

However, I see no reason why we can't battle our way to the three points - the spirit and confidence is second to none, we are on a great run [despite too many draws] and our football is arguably the best in the division right now.

So, a narrow 2-1 win for us, with Brandy atoning for his misses last week with a brace, in front of between 4-5,000, including 650 Saddlers.

Not got a great feeling about this one, not the happiest of hunting grounds for us, I think I have seen us win there once in about 5 visits. That said, if we play as we can, they wont be able to live with us, really hope Baxendale starts.

1-1

We have to be positive and go out to win this.

Playing it tight at 0-0 and hoping to nick it late , like at Hartlepool would be massively too risky.

We are THE form team and get our noses in front , with the confidence we already have and we could smash them . The longer it stays a tight game , the more they will sniff a chance .

The back 7 will mop up anything required , let messrs Brandy , Grigg , Patto and Westcarr / Bax run amok .

2-1 Saddlers .

Will be a tough match, they're "fighting for their lives" but we will come though and get the 3 points. 2-0 Brandy and Ibragriggovich. 4,204 (714 saddlers).

Tricky one cos they are desperate, but also on a really poor run. I'll think we'll have too much up front and win by the odd goal.

Scunny 1 Walsall 2.

We have to win, no other result is possible. Does Ian Botham still play for them?

Saigon to vomit just outside Swindon after driver takes wrong turn but no one will suspect due to his guiltless look :D

We are 0-0 with minutes to go. Johnstone has pulled off a couple of brilliant saves to keep us in it and satisfied Ginge that he is worth taking on as a season long loan signing for next season.

In desperation he looks into the crowd and spots me in my 1987 white shirt and falls to his knees: Help! he cries, luckily I just happen to be wearing my Addidas football boots which still fit from my time at school (FFH) and pleadfs for me to come on.

I graciusley (sod it i'm too pisse to typeproperly) accept and score the winner with an overhead kick Buck stye to earn us three points.

stone me that Peddy in the White Hart was good.

I hope I remembrrde to tacke my hat off.,

It should be possible to travel to Scunthorpe by canoe.

Just get on the River Tame under the M6 at Bescot, then through Birmingham & Tamworth to join the Trent at Alrewas.
That will take you to about a mile from Glanford Park.

Not sure how long this sort of thing would take though. More than the 16 hours available, I expect

Have to completely agree with that ... and to think we would have had a 3rd round trip to first division Wimbledon ( if my memory is right.. which it increasingly isn't).

Could be a back-handed blessing. He's sure to play the last two, if fit.
