Nearly set up Westcarr as well with a nice back heel. Good reaction to Brandy's shot for the goal... Don't see what the moans are about...

Moans? UTS? :D I think it's because he doesn't score 50 goals a season

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
Played poorly upto the first goal, but have played very well since. Brandy having an excellent game and linking well with Purkiss on the right. Grigg looking good too. Some nice football in the early stages from Pompey, but only one team in it after Brandy scored.
Must watch for the Benson/Connolly combinaton second half to ensure we don't sacrifice another 2-0 lead.
In terms of away following, looks like around 500 from Pompey.

I've got Player through the Walsall website. Commentary doesn't work on iPad though.

1st gear, used the ball well enough in the end. Its amazing what confidence can do in football.
Solid back four, solid midfield, solid upfront.
I think we will miss Westcarr, a Ricketts type. Liked him tonight and Grigg was superb, along with A Chambers.
Pompey are doomed even without a ten point deduction, one word. Turd.

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
A deserved win, against a Pompey side who, despite the fact they still pay their players far, far more than we could ever afford, flatter to deceive and are not really good enough - with or without the points deduction.
A solid all round performance. Westcarr is a bit of a tart, and should have scored, but he does give us something extra in the 'link up play' department. Brandy played well, but I thought Grigg should have been our MOTM.
My only negative - I thought Sam Mantom was a bit anonymous through periods of the match, but his loan return has coincided with a significant improvement in form, so what do I know.
An improved crowd of 4,038, including 486 from Portsmouth.

Brandys finish was really good, knew where the goalie was, and just slotted it past him under pressure. Most strikers would just smash it, usually into row z.

Bit strange watching in a pub with no sound, loud music & some rather strange looks when I jumped & shouted when we scored. Deserved win.

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
GREAT to see us win comfortably against the 2008 FA Cup winners! Find the responses on the board very positive but a bit muted, so far.
Well done, lads. Very good win. :D
Many positives, especially the stats - undefeated in 6, three clean sheets, 12 points out of 15 and, arguably, a bit unlucky it wasn't 16 or even 18 points but, hey, let's not be churlish. However...
Negatives? Well, hardly, but: we dominated possession for long periods and had shedfuls of shots on goal, but only scored 2. On another day, that could cost us. We had 25 shots! BUT, many of our shots on goal were from unlikely positions and distances. It is no coincidence that our two goals came from close in following really excellent assists. If DS can get us to play just a little bit craftier when in good positions, we could hammer some teams in what is, by all accounts, a pretty weak division this year.
As others have pointed out, this is a young team who do seem to be getting better and it is difficult to argue about 4 wins in 5 but I just have a feeling that the best is yet to come. Arguably, during our long winless run, we were unlucky on a number of occasions and/or suffered from an inability to close games out: if, as it appears, we've overcome that tendency, well, it's onwards and upwards for the Super Saddlers!
EXCELSIOR!

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
Just got back from game, slow game for 20 mins but we dominated after that and should have won by about 4-0 in the end. The team looks nice and settled at the moment and bringing Downing and Chambers into the team recently seems to be paying dividends.
Darlow- 7 Shaky moments and not great at catching the ball tonight but 1 very good save in the second half saved us from a nervy last 10 minutues.
Purkiss- 7 nice and solid without being spectacular. Keep him in the team and keep Taundry away please.
Benning- 7 Nervy first half hour but really grew into the game and showed some nice touches.
Butler- 8 Solid and kept their attacks to a minimum.
Downing- 8 I really like him, a great block in the first half and nice and carm on the ball. Him and Butler seem to complement each other well
Chambers- 8 Fantastic since he came back into the team, looks a real class act at the moment. Broke up everything near him and can't remember him wasting a pass all night. Just pipped by Grigg for MOTM.
Mantom 6- Not his best game but not dreadfull either. Wasted a few passes which let him down tonight but worked hard.
Patterson-8 Flashes of brilliance tonight. He has really quick feet when his on form. More consistancy and better decisions needed in order for him to improve
Brandy 8- His pace and trickery scares the hell out of defenders when his on form. Brilliant first half and involved with both goals, gave the ball away a bit more in the second half.
Westcarr-7 Definately gives us another option up front which has helped. He battled hard and deserved a goal, however he should have had a goal with the amount of chances he had.
Grigg- 9 My MOTM tonight which is a big turnaround as i'm not his biggest fan. He was fantastic tonight though and battled for everything. Despite being outsized won his fair share of headers and his movement was class.

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
Really enjoyed the win, concerned we gave the ball away cheaply far too often, but impressed with the fight we always showed to get it back very quickly. Should have been a much easier win, maybe another 2 or 3 goals should have come from chances created, and those misses could have cost us dearly against a better side.
Brandy going off with (I think) 16 minutes to go seemed to give Pompey more space and time to come forward and attack us in the closing stages, and that seems to mirror what others have said about previous games, so I wasn't pleased with that substitution, but I don't know, maybe Brandy's injury was worse than it looked. Baxendale seemed particularly wasteful of the ball when he came on, and made me scream at the TV screen a few times!
Impressed with Grigg, MoM for me, closely followed by Brandy. Darlow did well when he needed to, impressed with his handling and positioning too.
All in all a competent rather than sparkling performance, never reached the footballing heights that we showed on TV vs Shrewsbury, but I'd rather do what we did tonight and take the points than suffer a ludicrously unlucky defeat as at Salop.
Well done the lads tonight, 35 points now towards that 50 point safety line, can't see us failing to get there quite comfortably now, and that's a massive relief.

Re: Portsmouth (H) League 1 Friday 4/1/13.
Didn't think we played paricularly well tonight, but didn't need to to beat a desperately poor side.
First 20 mins, Pompey bossed the midfield and we created almost nowt. After the first goal, their "team" didnt want to know. You could give them 10 points and they'd still have a good chance of being relegated.
Grigg, Chambers and Butler were immense - and Darlow well impressive as well. Nice backbone for the team. Mid-table mediocrity feels great at the moment!

Excellent performance today hugely impressed by Darlow, Westcarr (great footballing brain), Brandy (pace that scares the life out of defenders), Chambers, Grigg (best game i've seen him have) and Benning (looked like a seasoned pro). Infact the whole team were blooming brilliant :D
