Reserves v Rotherham United (H) - 24/10/12

Wed Oct 24, 2012 4:09 pm

Central League (Division One)

Walsall 1 1 Rovrum

Walsall
David Grof

Ben George
James Chambers
Ben Purkiss
Malvind Benning

Kieron Morris
Jake Jones (Captain)
Jake Heath
Febian Brandy (Danny Griffiths, 79th min.)

Aaron Williams
George Bowerman (Reece Flanagan, 45th min.)

Unused Substitutes
Aris Christopherou
Liam Roberts (gk)

Manager:- Richard O'Kelly

We fielded a fairly strong (by our standards) team with 8 players who had played, or been on the bench, for the 1st team, this season, including some who had been involved in last night's game at Bramall Lane.

Goal Log
33rd min. - 0-1 - an unmarked Jason Taylor was allowed to collect the ball and shoot from just outside the penalty-area to put the Millers ahead, against the run of play.
45+1 min. - 1-1 - in stoppage time, centre-back Stephen Folan headed past his own 'keeper while under pressure from Febian Brandy ... and it WAS an own goal. Brandy did not touch it although he deserves full credit for forcing Folan's error.

Sinners List
50th min. - Michael O'Connor cautioned for unsporting behaviour (foul on Brandy)
63rd min. - David Noble cautioned for unsporting behaviour (foul on Brandy)
87th min. - James Chambers cautioned for unsporting behaviour (foul on Odejayi)

Nice to see Mark Bradley back at Bescot - even if it was as captain of Rotherham Reserves! I assume that Bowerman and Brandy were withdrawn to save them for Saturday. James Chambers got a full 90 minutes and looks near full fitness. Grof didn't have a lot to do. He made a couple of good saves and he wasn't really at fault with the goal, rather his outfield team-mates in front of him.
