At this rate, we'll be safe by the time we host Bournemouth on 19th January.

On route back in some serious traffic lol
Portsmouth deserved a draw from this really but a win is a win we take that and move on.
Portsmouth are a poor outfit but we can only beat who is infront of us.

Nice to see that mong's side lost 2-1 at home to Crawley today, too !
Can't knock this win at Pompey today, brilliant result, and we're getting giddy with the heights of 5th place tonight.

Smith IN !!!!!
A magnificent result today. I thought we might sneak a point but I did not expect us to win. I was one of those before the season started who expressed concerns about the strength of the signings we were making, particularly with a Hereford connection [Purkiss, Featherstone and Baxendale in particular]. This was reinforced by the Donny result and particularly the second half performance, when I thought we looked far too weak and had very little presence upfront, even if our build up at times was good. We were picked off by a strong, physical Doncaster side who more often than not represent the norm at League one level. The one bright spot on the day was our desire to get the ball down and play, however I really feared for us this season.
5 games on, and we have collected 11 points and are in 5th place, above most of the fancied sides, including Doncaster. What do I know. In hindsight, the fact that Baxendale was given a good reception by the away fans when he came on as a second half substitute back on Saturday 18th August said something about his potential, and it sounds like he has shown it today :). It is still early days, and I seem to remember we had a good start to last season [W2, D2, L1 after 5 games] but I'm quite happy to say I overreacted at the time.
Let the goods time roll. God knows, we deserve them.

Disagree with the chap who said Pompey deserved a draw. Walsall definitely the better side especially considering ref didn't give us much.
I was sure it would end 2-2 but we finished the stronger side.
Type of day it's worth supporting Walsall for.

You seemed similarly underwhelmed after Notts County, didn't you?
Poor side or not, they've got half a dozen players who, on paper, would walk into our side. Given they won their first game of the season last week, this is a great result.

The Sky text-commentary on my i-phone said they both hit the bar in the same minute - I thought that was odd, the second must have been a correction (but didn't say so).

Let's not get carried away. Look at the table. We've only played one team that is above us. :D

Re: Portsmouth (a) - 15/09/12 - League 1
Just to emphasise what a very impressive start this is, consider the teams we have played. Several people have already pointed out that we have played some of the more fancied sides, and the numbers back up that we have had a tough start. This is by no means a scientific process but I added up the league positions of all the opponents of the top 10 (yes, I do need to get a life!) to see who had the lowest total and therefore the 'toughest' start. Interesting findings:
Tranmere - 106
Notts Co - 93
Stevenage - 104
Crawley - 88
Walsall - 66
Yeovil - 85
Sheff Utd - 123
MK Dons - 71
Doncaster - 61 (from 5 games)
Brentford - 87
Let's hope we can do better than last season against teams in the bottom half!

As a fully paid up member of the happy clapping club, I did not think that we would be where we are given the early season fixtures.
I'm chuffed to bollox as our Norther Saddlers would say.
Seriously though, I'm concerned that Moaning Old Git might have had a stroke given the start to the season.

Re: Portsmouth (a) - 15/09/12 - League 1
A great day out all round.
hemmings played well for the first going in for a 50/50 ball and putting in the cross for the first.
Flo's goal was a great strike.
yes we rode our luck in the second half and with some poor defending and dodgy officiating pompey pulled one back.
for all grofs indecisions at times that double save in the second half was a cut above anything id seen in a long time.
