Some excellent reports here. Impressed with Nicholls, Taundry and Sadler in particular.
I had been one of those suggesting playing big Claude through the middle. Seeing it last night in the second half, I was disappointed. Better out wide, I think.
All-in-all, it's just great to get through. Nice home draw for the next round please.

Re: Shrewsbury Town (H) JP Trophy Tuesday 30/8/11.
I was obbviously at a different game to some last night but here goes
Sloppies were an excellent passing side in both halves with us being far more clinical when half chances arose, Nichols should have put is one up but slipped when striking the ball with his left foot so forgiven
Jarvis goal was just stunning, sitting where I do in the OAP stand from the moment he struck the ball the flight and swerve was awesome must be the silver ball we play with! As for his penalty I wouldn't say it was poor he just smashed it straight down the middle and I am sure the posts lifted out of the ground, ok should have scored but could have easily bounced in, where's the russian linesman when you need him.
Taundry's goal was hit on the half volley following a corner and again he struck it superbly, lets hope that is the first of many for him this season
The game was very open and that is the style we play under Smith, however last night the Sloppies were far better in possesion throughout the game and with the two goals we scored really had the stuffing knocked out of them in the first half. Second half quite simply we were out played, I don't think we were neccessarly poor as some have said just that credit where it's due the Sloppies played high tempo passing footie which was great to watch. We huffed and puffed and defended well with Butler and Smith winning the ariel battle and the fullback being solid, Groff is definatley Jimmy's lovechild feels like 92 all over again!
I think Hurst had a solid game and along with Jarvis and Nichols really put a shift in, I think Hurst give us a solidity we have for a number of years and Matt Sadler is Mr 8/10 what a snip he has been, if Smith doesn't give him a 2yr extension at Xmas he must be mad.
Chambers looked a little hesitant with his tackling following his sending off but that will settle and Taundry continued his good form with a 7/10 in the middle
The enigma that is big Claude continues but stick with him as he gives us something different, just seems to be a 70 minute player at the moment so I guess Nichols will be pressing for his slot when Grigg and Macken return.
Richards, great to see him perform exactly as he did for us, flatter to decieve, move deeper and deeper as the game wore on and tackled like a wet paper bag good riddance. Nice to see Wrighty always liked the lad and did well in his cameo if not should have scored, plus had a giggle at Dancing kev which was quite funny!
Well onwards on the march to Wembley and a win against the welsh men to boot but I would expect to see them next season if we are not promoted!

Westlake , Smith and Taundry were rubbish according to many fans last season , and should have been shipped out
Marvelous what a decent manager can do .
I don't care what people say in hindsight. If Taundry was out of contract in the summer, he would have walked. Let's just embrace that Deano has done a great job on him.
Taundry was cack last season, now he is playing well - well done Deano.
And you have the nerve to criticise people for writing Jarvis off. Believe it or not there was a time before last season, and before Hutchings when Taundry (and Westlake and Smith) all performed well in the past and showed signs of great promise. Dicky Dosh told press years ago he thought Taundry could do very well out of the game, and that from an experienced youth team coach who produced players to go and play at the top.
Yes, he was tat for most of last season, but so were most players with lack of fitness and confidence. The criticism of Smith and Westlake was also OTT, and damages confidence further.
If the supporters went out and started slating the players for no reason on Saturday they'd start playing poorly again.
And you had the nerve to claim Richards and Wright were class?
I ain't biting.
Taundry was cack for the past few seasons. This season he has turned it around. Can't really put it simpler than that... well done Deano!

We never really seemed to get a foothold in last night's game despite being two goals up at half time. They had more of the ball than us, but for all their neat passing, couldn't break us down. I guess that's to Deano's credit as we probably would have fallen apart this time last year.
Sadler and Smith were the picks for me. For all the praise Nicholls seems to be getting, he missed a bread and butter chance after less than a minute and didn't hold the ball up at all until the 93rd minute when he ran into the corner. Jarvis tired too easily but at least scored a goal, and what a goal it was.
Chambers was our biggest disappointment last night, I felt. The game was crying out for someone to get a foot on the ball, but he seemed to struggle with the pace of it. For all the abuse he got from the F2G lower, I thought Richards had a great game for Shrewsbury - always available to receive the ball and built things from the back.
We had nothing on our bench to either protect our lead or add to it, which is a huge concern for me. I'm sure SMith won't be resting on any laurels though and will be doing all he can to make sure we don't play as scruffily as that again.
