Middlesbrough (H) Carling Cup First Round Tuesday 9/8/11.
Championship Boro began the season with an 2-2 draw at home to Portsmouth on Saturday , Not too sure what side manager Tony Mowbray will field bearing in mind
midweek internationals which see us lose the services of Will Grigg, plus the fact so many teams fail to take this competition seriously however this should be a good test for us .
Prediction , on the bases we are long overdue a good cup result 1-0 Macken on target .

Only a tenner in too folks.
I think we can win this, not sure how serious Mowbray will take it. Although they have a strong youth setup.
2-1 to us.
Set piece goals.

Can't see us winning but we'll give it a right good go nevertheless, 3-2 Middlesbrough.

This alone will be worth the price of my (free) ticket: anything else is a bonus
Walsall 3 - Middlesbrough 1
I don't know why, but i fancy us for an upset-we'm due one and sure the League Cup doesn't rate highly on their agenda for the season

I must remember to sneak a steel chair into the ground then. Can't wait to slip into my leotard in The Stadium Suite :D
Walsall 1 Boro 2.
Asps to spend the whole game dreaming of one day owning the club, just so he can interview Rebekah Brooks to be programme editor :|

Walsall 2-1 Middlesborough
I fancy the upset too.
Big Baz to spoil the no holds barred 4-way by jumping in with his signature move - throwing a portion of chips at the other 4 and watching seagulls peck their eyes out, while shouting "It's a good job you can't fly".

can see Middlesborough scoring, but can see us scoring more! Walsall 2 - Boro 1
Attendance 4023
Scoreboard to say 'D NG R: W CH O T' before falling from roof and landing on top of visiting keeper, Mowbray to blame long grass.
Quote from Mowbray: ' Mowbray won’t be playing a second string side at League One Walsall, who won 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
The Boro boss said: “Tuesday is an important game, a dangerous game, as we found out at Carlisle about the quality of first division clubs.'

3-0 to Walsall... Taundry to score a hat-trick, set them up himself, make 6 goal line clearances, crash a header against a cross-bar from a corner he took himself before Arsenal sign him for £23m to replace Fabregas.
*In the real world, 3-1 to Boro*

If we are to believe the brain man. Taundry is going to get arse raped before the game. He will be sore. Too sore to play.

Mowbray's teams play pretty tappy football but are notoriously bad at defending set pieces, let's hope Smith exploits this.

1-1 at full time, Claude for us in his experimental centre forward position (hopefully) and Emnes for them.
3-1 defeat after extra time. Emnes with another and Bailey.

Re: Middlesbrough (H) Carling Cup First Round Tuesday 9/8/11
Tricky one this. I think its winnable, and if in doing so we get a favourable 2nd round draw then we might actually have a bit of a cup run.
That said, I think of the two home games this week we've already won the more important one, and I'd sacrifice a result tonight if it guaranteed one at Hartlepool on Saturday.
Lots of options for replacing Grigg. Jarvis, Nicholls or Bowerman could start up front, or Gnakpa could be moved up front allowing either Nicholls or Paterson to come in on the flank. Its also possible the likes of Grof, Manny Smith, Peterlin and Beevers could get a game depending on how seriously Deano wants to take the game. Personally I think if we field our strongest team we'll win, and that's what we should do to keep the momentum going from Saturday.
2-1, goals from Gnakpa and then Bowerman to come off the bench and get the winner. Attendance: 3,579

Usually I would agree, but I think at this moment in time I'd go the other way. We aren't going anywhere in the league this year (unless we are bad enough to go down, which I doubt) and a decent cup run is much needed, and overdue, and might just get a bit of feel good factor back in to the club.

Walsall 1-1 Middlesbrough after 90 minutes, then win on penalties.
Might put a cheeky late bet on us to win.
