Wolverhampton Wanderers(H)Pre-Season Friendly 19.7.11

Sat Jul 16, 2011 8:34 pm

Mick McCarthy bring big spending neighbours Wolves for their annual visit to the Banks's
If Wolves field a strong side maybe we'll have some idea of Deanos first choice side for when the proper stuff kicks off .

Prediction 1-1

I'm in a sandwich bet with all the dingles in my office (4). We get a 1.5 goal headstart - losing team buys the bacon Sarni's on Friday.

COME ON ME BABIES

Would be nice to get one over on the Wolves, it's been a while, looking forward to seeing our new signings for the first time.

I'll go 2 -1 walsall

Did anyone else notice Jamie Paterson's Facebook page yesterday afternoon? He'd written something along the lines of "George Bowerman is a Wolves fan so boo the hell out of him tomorrow :-)".

Five minutes later it had been deleted but I thought it was funny :D

Does anyone know whether the game is live on Radio WM or possibly elsewhere?

Is this Wolves' strongest team, or just a Wolves XI ?? Just curious, as I presume we've put our first XI out for this one. :?

Haha few Wolves fans are going ape on Molineux Mix...

"We should be thrashing Walsall, by two clear goals"
"Deary me can't we defend?!"
"4x goals vs Crewe and Walsall is worrying *sad face*"

with 2,610 Dingles...

Sounded like we put up a great performance until the giant 5 man sub, which seemed to have cost us the game.

We have come on leaps and bounds from 12 months ago when Wolves should have got 8.I thought for the first half hour we were the only team in the game and should have gone ahead when Hurst missed a sitter at 1-1.
Lot's of positives. We look faster and fitter than last year and the new kit looked great.

Bring on Orient!

Just got back. We may have lost but there's plenty of positives to take from that performance.

Sadler impressed me and he can certainly put his foot down and shift along when needed. Butler has picked up where he left off last season, solid at the back and dependable. Chambers looked really impressive, calm and collected in midfield which is something we've lacked recently. Mackens goal was awesome and I just hope he can score a few more like that over the course of the season. Hurst looks promising and I'd like to see Peterlin play on Thursday as I couldn't quite make up my mind on him just yet.

Negatives.. Nicholls. Totally at fault for Wolves second goal when he just watched their player stroll right past him into the box. Didn't seem to want to take players on when we had the ball and always played it across the pitch rather than pushing forwards.

Those names I've missed out didn't necessarily do anything wrong it's just with all the changes they did nothing to stand out and make themselves noticed.

That was quite a good game for a friendly. We lost but we played well. A bit unfortunate to go behind initially. Macken's goal was as good a goal as I've seen in a friendly since Dario Larossa's outrageous lob against Coventry all those years ago. Grigg took his goal well, literally passing the ball into the net through the defenders legs. Grigg and Macken will be a good partnership this year.

On the left, Sadler and Hurst also look to be forming an understanding. Both played well in open play, but every one of Hurst's corners (which, oddly, he took right footed) was headed away by the first man. Westlake played decent too, hopefully he can form a decent understanding on the right with Gnakpa. The trialist bloke in midfield (Peterlin?) also looked half decent alongside Chambers. I think I'd snap him up.

I think we'll disappointed with all three goals we conceeded as Wolves didn't actually tear us apart for any of them, they were all really scrappy. Wolves did look more dangerous once all the subs had been made, but thats probably understandable.

So in summary, lots of positives, but still plenty of things to work on.

EDIT: Forgot to mention our new goalkeeper. Looks eccentric and I think we'll have some fun with him.

Bunch of clueless tossers, always will be.

I've never laughed so hard listening to some of those idiots on the radio - sack Mick McCarthy, we should be pushing for a Europa league place, bla bla. CLUELESS (again).

Walker- Didnt do much...wasnt really worked apart from two tap ins.

Westlake- Looked steady.
Butler- Awesome.
Smith- Looked steady.
Sadler- Some loose passes but looked ok.

Nicholls- Game passed him by.
Peterlin- Looked a very tidy player, looked decent alongside chambers, worth a one year deal imo.
Chambers- Great signing! Bags of energy and our engine in the middle . Will be very important to us this season.
Hurst- Looked lively and looked to get the ball in the box asap.

Grigg- Took his goal well, will be interesting to see how much he progresses this season.
Macken- take a bow son!

Subs
Grof- made one good save, wasnt sure if it was his error or not for the goal.
Beevers- Looked ok.
Lancashire- Didnt do much.
Gnakpa- Looks to run with it often which is positive, looks to have a few tricks up his sleeve.
Taundry- Threw himself into a few tackles, some good cross field balls.
Jarvis- Didnt do much, had half chance but dragged his shot wide.
Paterson- looks good on the ball, will be interesting to see him progress aswell this season.
Bowerman- Wasnt involved much.
