Oops chunkster my friend, yow can't say that sort of thing any more! I was chased by an angry mob with pitchforks and burning torches, for actually suggesting that a player was 'black', ooops I've said it again! The leftist PC brigade will be having a field day bemoaning the fact that we old 'un's don't know that we should say African/American or some such crud.

I'm sure 'black' is fine, why wouldn't the truth be fine? Calling someone 'coloured' is the big no no.

i was an apprentice to a black guy for 4 years. and now work with 6 black guys. and trust me they only like the term black because they are proud of it  i would never refer to them as colored :|i cringe when older people refer to them as that. and for someone born into a mixed marriage they are either dual heritage or mixed race :wink:Ancient Moaner wrote:chunkster wrote:who was that big strong black guy that played for chesterfield? boy did he cause us some trouble. does he still play for them? sylvan ebanks that was him. i wonder if he could be tempted away :?

Correct, Chunkster. "Black" is the acceptable PC way of referring to those of African/Caribbean ethnicity and black skin. "Coloured" should never be used - and it tends to give away the age of the speaker! :D

My Nan (RIP) used to refer to "darkies". I'm sure she wasn't racist, just a product of her time.

On the basis Bradshaw was one of our top earners AND we let Jordon Murphey go , I wonder if we added the two together if that might tempt Ledesma back......
Failing that (last time I checked) Ruben Reid was out of contract.......

We are keen on a recently released League One striker, believed to have strong aerial ability. This player does have a number of options however.
Also, Whitney wants three further additions before the season starts.

Yeah and he is well known to be terrible. Just a big bloke who can hold the ball up but has almost no footballing ability. Peterborough thought he was awful and sold him to Shrewsbury who thought he was awful, he then went on loan Southend where they thought he was a donkey but he actually did OK for them.
Shrewsbury have reportedly let him go on a free today so the profile matches.
I think that'd be an awful signing.

@SportsPeteO Bradford City and Walsall are battling it out for Huddersfield Town striker Jordy Hiwula.
This'll be interesting

Best not be Tyrone Barnett.
Steve Davies is worth a shout - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Dav ... _born_1987)
28, target man, good in the air, recently released by Bradford. Got a decent reputation. 5 goals in 25 last season.
Not a number 9, but could be a good foil for someone else.

Re: Transfer Rumours 2016/2017
Don't think Davies would be a bad signing at all. If we are planning on playing 2 up top he could be really good foil for a smaller striker like a Hiwula or a prem youngster. If we plan on sticking him up top on his own though then that'd be really uninspiring.
He could be that target man this board has been crying out for since 2011!

Re: Transfer Rumours 2016/2017
Davies was decent at Derby from memory, he's a Nigel Clough favourite so Burton will probably be interested (is it just me or have they hardly signed anyone so far this summer?)
Very injury prone though so will probably be announced Monday morning to fit this summers criteria.
Edit: Just looked at their wiki and Burton only got 16 registered professionals for the season so far.

do you mean that burton have still got the same players that took them up? and they have kept the team that they were so successful with last year?    it will never work as a philosophy :mrgreen:SoccerHQ wrote:Davies was decent at Derby from memory, he's a Nigel Clough favourite so Burton will probably be interested (is it just me or have they hardly signed anyone so far this summer?)

Not all of them, they lost Mark Duffy to Sheffield United.
Seems they've added just two central defenders so looks like they're playing 6-4-0 formation this season.

Re: Transfer Rumours 2016/2017
I remember when Dave Mackay quit as manager in August 1978 just before the start of the season to go for the Arab 30 pieces of silver, he left us with I think it was 8 full time professionals on the books. There were only 2 weeks to go before the start of the season! You youngsters ain't seen nothin

For the record, we got relegated from Division 3 in 1978/79, after finishing 6th the previous season with a decent run in the FA Cup thrown in (beating Leicester in the process).
Even though some of our signings look decent enough this time round (Otzumer, Cuvelier, Edwards, Moussa), I'm getting a bit worried in terms of the lack of striking options available.
We if we don't invest in at least one decent striker over the next couple of weeks, I'll be somewhat miffed.
