Colchester United (H) League 1 Saturday 4/9/10.

Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:43 pm

Our visitors are lucky enough to have a bye in the JPT ,so I thought I'd crack on with the match thread.

A Look at the U's start to the season.

Exeter - away - drew 2-2
Sheff Wed - home drew 1-1
Rochdale - away - won 2-1
Carlisle - home - drew 1-1

In the Carling cup
1st Round Hereford - away - won 3-0
2nd Round Sunderland - away lost 0-2

Colchester sit 9th in the table just one place above us on the same number of points .

Prediction an entertaining 2-2 draw .

We will win 1-0. In which the board will go from super depressed to happy again, at least for a few hours.

Big game, 5 defeats from the opening 7 will be a very bad start

I'm gonna go with a 2-1 to Walsall

last minute goal from Clayton Mac (with his first touch, hutch's first sub, Lanchasire for Mcdonald - INSPIRED)

Walsall 3-2 Colchester

Sheffield Saddler to stay away but send Bonser a cheque for £9.99, cutting out the middleman.

This is the team i would go for: Assuming that Jones and Taundry are out injured and Mcgivern and Grigg on International duty, plus Nicholls' suspension.

------------------Brain-------------------
Westlake--Mcdonald--Smith--Lescott
Reid----Marshall----Richards----Gray
----------Byfield------Macken----------

Subs:
Bevan
Lancashire
The youth...

I will go for 2-1 for the scoreline since its happened in every game this season.....but i could go either way in typical walsall fashion.

That team is the only team available Jimmy due to injuries etc...
I do agree about swopping Lancs for McD onald though. He was ripped apart on Tuesday night.
Westlake is a worry though.Hopefully he was just a little rusty on Tuesday as his performance was dire.
I'd probably take a point at this stage given players available.
Can't believe 6 games in and already we are missing Taundry/Nicholls/Jones/McGivern/Grigg and possibly Byfield.

Well according to hutch our squads complete so we should have decent back up

according to BBC, Byfield may still be missing so if thats the case:

---------------Brain------------------
Westlake Mcdonald Smith Lescott
----Geddes--Marshall--Richards---
----Reid------Macken-----Gray-----

The words "paper" and "thin" spring to mind re: our squad. That line-up terrifies me about our right hand side. I'd be inclined to deploy Lancashire as an emergency full back for the game. Westlake was pretty dire against Chesterfield, and I think he'd be ripped apart with another kid in front of him. :(

i really do think we need another winger, another centre mid and possibly a versatile defender.

Not sure about a winger. We've got Jones, Gray, Nicholls (despite his protests that he's a striker), Reid (quite comfortable out wide), Taundry has played right wing a fair bit, Richards has played left wing a fair bit, I'd even argue a case for Byfield to get out there if Macken starts doing the business in front of goal. Agree totally about a central midfielder - I'd love to see a player who looks comfortable carrying the ball forward.

Blimey, folk seem positive seeing that Colchester's only defeat this season was at Sunderland in the League Cup.

They've scored 7 goals in 3 away games, we haven't kept a clean sheet since Gilbert Alsop retired... I'm going 1-2 or 2-3 defeat I'm afraid. *cue a comprehenehsive 3-0 home victory*

Surely Peter Reid is the Plymouth manager these days.....
Sorry - that was obviously deliberate - Tony Macken retired years ago

After 15 minutes (according to the BBC website) we have 72% of the possession, Colchester 28%

Unheard-of luxury. We've had a corner, and a free kick from Matt Richards on target.

Possession seems to be 39%/61% now - in their favour...

Back to normal then !!!

0-0 half time... at least we do have Byfield on the bench.

No "higher league" football today, but I see that Constable has scored for Oxford, and Mattis for Chesterfield.

Today's attendance at the Bank's's's's 3,416

Byfield on for Gray....... 65 minutes (Surely a forward line of Byfield, Macken and Reid can produce something?)

(a propos nothing at all - fun and games at Gigg Lane, where Bury lead Gillingham 5-4 with about 20 minutes to go)

Heard of the other two, but who the hell is 'Forde' ? he obviously has a squad number too....
Perhaps he is the next wonder kid off the production line from our full time scout (   )
Has he got many badges? this 'scout' of ours?
Badges? we don't need no stinkin Badges!! Blazing Saddles anyone? "Where the white women at?"

He's got loads of badges!!!!!! Give him credit!

He has a smiley badge, a Mod badge with The Who on it, and a Blue Peter one! Plus lots of random ones he has collected over the years
