Think we've gone 4-3-3 again..
Stokes is starting again too. Good luck to the lad!
Coventry scored early on but it was ruled offside apparently.

Maybe we will against Port Vale next week [or whenever it is]. That's about our level.

maybe we should cash in on Deeney now then!!

Although Coventry aren't all that, I'm hoping we're saving up our goals for next week against Fail (I'm being selfish as that is the one I can make!)

Generally played well at times today. 4 3 3 did work - infact better than 4 4 2. Cov only scored 2nd in injury time when half the youth team was on. Byfield Jones and Deeney should all have scored

No goals, not too worried. We could not get the ball off the Wolves so we didnt have a chance.

Im glad we played better against Coventry, i don't rate them think they will scrapping for their place next season.

Coventry just think they are a big club so thats why they didnt bring many.

I would expect us to give Port Vale a game....

Not a good bet. Owls could be wound up, or go into qdministration. Not a well run club

An encouraging performance today, the scoreline was not indicative of the game.
The first half was very good, and we played some neat Football with plenty of possession.
Coventry played better in the secoond half but at no time`did they over run us , we more than held our own.
Good to see the kids come on with 10 mins to go.Overall a much improved performance and for a Friendly an enjoyable game.

I think Stokes did enough for a short term contract at least. He's not match fit however. Lancashire did well, Smith was ouitstanding. Richards, Marshall and Taundry looked good.together although Marshall drifted in and out a bitM That's why we looked better with 4 3 3. Deeney had three chances abd hesitated on all 3. Byfield had a one on one saved and Jones scuffed a good chanceM. Of the kids Pattison looked useful up front as did Hickman at the back - and I"m not saying tjat just because his Mom's a friend and old workmate!

How many do you realistically expect for a practice match?

Based on last year's home attendance, of say 3300 Walsall fans, about 1/3 showed up for a glorified training session - I think that is pretty reasonable.

I went yesterday also - however my view differs from Neil's somewhat.

The major points were:

1. 433 DID work - but only when we actually tried to keep the ball and not hoof it down the line.
2. Matt Richards is awful.
3. Taundry and Marshall played well together.
4. Lancashire is very cumbersome and unsure on the ball.
5. We should offer Stokes a one-year deal on Monday - he was superb. Very good left foot but also quite tall.
6. We NEED another midfielder - someone with experience who can break play up and dominate. Richards, Taundry and Marshall are all too similar and lightweight.

Very encouraging I thought, however we did look powderpuff in front of goal. Another striker may be an option (a lona maybe?) but we need another 2 midfielders, and another centre half before we have a squad that just might surprise people this season..
