I'm not really that surprised. A point was a possibility, but I guess the view that we are at best a midtable side has been reinforced by this result. We need to beat Leyton Orient next week as I can't see us getting more than a point from the 3 matches over the festive period against Bristol Rovers, Norwich and Charlton.

I said last week after the Southampton game I have seen nothing to make me change my mind that we will be mid-Table by the end of the Season and I stand by that today.

It ain't people changing their minds. It's a few who, after a few wins against bottom of the table dwellers, come on here and start prediciting all sorts of successes. The rest of us then come on and try to inject some reality into proceedings.

Re: Millwall (A) League 1 Saturday 12/12/09
Just back , and no complaints about the result , the best side won.
We started well , and got the bonus of a lovely finish from Smith from Till's well delivered corner ( and we had a PLAN from corners , as we tried the same thing again later )
I honestly thought Millwall were there for the taking at this stage , as they seemed lacking in confidence and were mis placing several passes and we were dealing with them pretty easily , apart from one moment of confusion when Ince nearly got caught out on the edge of his area .. But as the half grew on Millwall got more confident and clearly could knock it about , and played some impressive football at times. As did we in fairness , but boy did we miss Jones AND Deeney's movement , as although Parkin worked hard , he was largely dealt with and any creativity had to come from Byfield . It would have flattered us , but Byfield had a wonderful chance to make it 2-0 after sliiping his man , and was in lots of space , one to one but hit the keeper .
2nd half was a totally different story ; Milwall just bossed it completely and had so many shots i lost count . Its hard to say where it went wrong - they definitely stepped it up and we had no answers . It really wasnt a surprise when either goal went in , the first came when one of our CH's lost out on the edge of the box and it fell for their striker. But i am totally confused what happened for the 2nd ; it seemed as though we presumed he was off side , near the half way line and the same striker had so much time he should have scored , and did. We never looked like scoring second half .
I thought Ince did well , and could not be faulted for either goal ; Weston did ok , Hughes and Smith were excellent , Sansara looked the weakest link ( and i think was a tactical sub to bring Vincent on?)
Bradley did well enough ; Mattis did his normal gritty job but no creativity ; Till started brightly but faded ( a bit like at Colchester) and although Richards uses the ball intelligently , he wasnt in it for long periods .
Parkin struggled to make an impact but couldnt be faulted for effort ; Byfield was our obvious danger but they knew that and doubled up on him a lot , and to be honest he didnt get a lot of joy ...
Subs didnt change anything.
We missed Deeney , and we missed Jones . Full marks for effort , and application and they looked gutted at the end , but bottom line is that we were outplayed by a better team
Very low turn out for the travelling Saddlers . Decent pint at London Bridge was the highlight .

Totally agree Phil
We've had a comfortable run of games some fans have got carried away .
The next 7 games will tell us all we are nowhere good enough for the play offs .

Not surprised we got beat. A midfield with Till, Richards and Bradley HAS to be one of the worst in the football league and probably the worst in this league. Sansara needs to be replaced by Vincent. Our team without Jones, Nicholls and Deeney obviously lacks.

That result's no surprise, and I think it's a decent measure of how pragmatic the average UTSer that that's two defeats to decent teams and yet there's been NO "Hutchings Out" thread. Now punching around our weight, three points next game game, please. :D

Are we talking Osborn, Osborne, Osbourne or Osbourn? While we're on about it, is it Bennett, Bennet, Benett or Benet you're referring to too?
All of them were great.

Re: Millwall (A) League 1 Saturday 12/12/09
What a day, the coach got stuck on the motorway so a police helecopter could land. Third in the queue, the dingle coach cut inside and got through just infront of us, meaning we were left stuck for about 45 mins.
Then, we finally arrived, with 10 minutes to kick off. Everyone went to the ticket office to get a ticket as there were none in advance. Lucky for my mates and I, the junior saddlers coach was cancelled so the bloke had lots of spare tickets and gave us some for free :D
Fantastic performance for the first 10 minutes. We were all over them. Got in there faces, frustrated them, got the crowd on their players backs and went 1-0 up. Perfect, lets carry on in this fashion, but erm.... no.
We caved in. Byfield had a golden chance to make it 20, but fluffed it.
After that we were poor. The better side won. They just completely dominated us. There was a brief spell in the second half where we looked like we may get an equaliser but it wasn't to be.
Overall, we were shocking. Chasing shadows all the time, caved in to the atmosphere from the 'wall fans. We looked terrified to put our foot on the ball and play it. It was get the ball and see who could get it to their keeper quickest.
MOTM, Ince.

Oh come on, give me some credit, I knew very well that people would come back and say that, but I know that position and trust me he does neither of those things. Bradley has been doing the nitty gritty in the last few games, with the games passing Mattis by. They are too much of the same type of player, we need someone in there who can put there foot on the ball, slow the game down and pick a pass.
