Reserves v Macclesfield 08/09/2009

Thu Sep 10, 2009 8:08 am

Went to watch this on Tuesday night, brief summary of performances as follows:

Cooney - Played well for his first full reserve game. Kicking improved as the game went on, acted well as a sweeper but not really tested.
Weston - good captains peformance. Always talking and encouraging and nulified most of the left side threat. Obviously looking to win back 1st team place.
Partidge - did well agaisnt the 2 big strikers and looked comfortable. A few lapses of concentration but solid all in all.
Hickman - same as above. Solid and commanding with a few lapses in concentration.
Sansara - Mixed. Did some ok work both defensively and going forward but just doesn;t look good enough.
Jones - lively in first half and gave their left-back a real hard time. Cracking effort in 2nd half off bar.
Davies - Not as good as I have seen him before. Midlfield was a bit of a battle and scrappy, especially with (filthy) Rooney challeneges flying around!
O'Keefe - got better after his goal but doesn't look strong or good enough.
Adkins - quiet first half but did well when had more of the ball in 2nd half. Good delivery from crosses and free-kicks.
Parkin - 2 tap-ins and good to get on the score sheet. Did okay holding the ball up but you would expect that against a relatively young team.
Nicholls - lively and caused problems for their defence. Best player on the pitch but finishing was definitely lacking! Glad he got his goal in the end.

Subs
Grigg - first touch was excellent when he came on. Would have liked to have seen him get slightly longer. Good save from keeper to deny Walsall a 5th goal.
McCourt - looked lively when came on and battled well. Bit selfish with his one chance when could have put Grigg through.

Walsall overall were a lot better than the opposition and it was good to see a few goals at the Banks' eventually (comical cheer when Parking tapped in the first one). Decent turn-out for a reserve game and some decent footy and goals in addition.

No probs - missed out the main bit!! Final score was 4-0 to Walsall, no bookings on our side but think Rooney got booked for them....if not then he was mighty close. He looks to have the same temperament as his brother but without the talent!

Cannot comment on the pies unfortunately but the tea was good
