Accrington Stanley (A) Carling Cup 1st Round Tuesday 11/8/09

Sun Aug 09, 2009 9:10 am

League Cup , Milk Cup , Carling Cup call it that they may this competition gave WFC its most memorable night in its history ,
A semi final 1st leg 2-2 draw at Anfield not to mention a 2-1 victory at Arsenal . in a earlier round

We start this year not to far from Liverpool against Accrington who began the season with a 1-0 defeat at Rotherham.

Prediction Walsall will be in the hat for the second round.

Accrington Stanley 0 Walsall 2. Sam Parkin with a silky brace.

Big Baz 1 to turn up wearing one white glove, and spends the whole game doing moonwalks and shouting "cha mone" in a bizzare Michael Jackson tribute.

Forgot to mention Gary Childs last minute winner against Shrewsbury. Magic !
Walsall to be in the next round for sure.

I will almost certainly miss the kick off.

A win on penalties after a 1-1 draw, in front of a crowd of barely 1,000.

Walsall through on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Bangor Cymru Saddler to streak the length of the pitch with "Bonser Out" written on his manhood. Weather to be so cold it looks like he has "BO" written on it instead.

Anything other than a win won't be good enough. We capitulated against Darlo last season. We haven't had a cup run to capture the imagination for years, and we haven't had a run of any note since we got to the 5th round of the FA Cup and lost at Sheffield United. I would love to think we can get to the third or fourth round at least in the League Cup this year.

Do you think we will put out a full strength side for this or do you think a few of the younger lads might be involved?

Just bearing in mind we have Southend on Sat and Leeds on the following Tuesday.

Got to be a full strength side, surely?

It's early in the season so fatigue shouldn't be an issue and there's a chance of a money-spinning second round tie if we can overcome a mediocre 4th divisions side on Tuesday. Plus, there's nothing like a good cup run to drum up interest in the side.

To be fair Jorge we should have been home and dry by the time Rickets got himself sent off.

Exactly, which is why we need a professional performance this year from players who don't say to themselves "Oh, its only Accrington". They gave us a game both times we played them in 06/07, so we need a good, solid performance and no Ricketts style stupidity.

I like where your heads at JP. I predict a nervy 2-1 win with Richards & Deeney bagging in front of just over a hundred travelling Saddlers.

I also predict disapproving glances from the drivers seat when my playlist for the journey hits full speed! I've shoehorned at least four Lionel Ritchie songs in their already!

Oh what a feeling, when your dancing on the ceiling........
