Hartlepool United (A) League 1 Saturday 7/2/09.

Wed Feb 04, 2009 9:46 am

Looking at the the weather forecast I'll be amazed if this game goes ahead.
Just in case here's goes a look at our hosts recent league form.

Crewe - home - lost 1-4
Oldham - away - lost 1-2
Northampton - home - won 2-0
Carlisle - home - drew 2-2
Brighton - away - lost 1-2
Huddersfield - away - drew 1-1

Full home record
Played 14 - won 6 - drew 5 - lost 3 - goals for 30 - against 23 .
Harlepool sit one place and 1 point behind us in league , 13th - 34 points from 28 games played.

Be prepared for a bit of banter from the bunker :D

Pediction : 1-2 to the Saddlers.

2-0 to the Pride of the Midlands.

All UTS posters to demand action over the post count debacle, Wendy Mumford to smile in an "It wasn't me" kind of way.

I fancy us for this one.

1-2 Saddlers

Fray Bentos Is God and Saigon Saddler to barbeque a monkey in the centre circle at half time, saying it tastes better than dolphin.

1 - 1 to Walsall.

MMF to have his very fetching 'hat with flaps' stolen by a seagull and dropped somewhere over northern Holland.

I see it being a very tough game up front with the Azurri causing our pack all sorts of bother, but Andy Goode to slot 10 points off the boot and the Armitage brothers to score a try a piece.

England to win 20 - 16

Oh and the Saddlers to draw 1-1 oop north!

Can't see much past a draw for this one. I'll go 1-1. Sam Williams to start and score for us.

A defeat could see us slip down the table considerably, and I'll take a point now. However, I've searched my soul and can see a 2-1 defeat.

3,500 "still goers" will punch the air in B and Q as 65mm downpipe gets put on free delivery and ten percent off.

Meanwhile.... about 150 Saddlers will travel from Walsall, well done to them, they are the only people who have the right to complain, or even comment about anyone not going to games .

Ah, the wonders of credibility by mileage. How about the 'Bath Saddler's, 'Bristol Saddler's and 'Manchester Saddler's who regularly travel significant distances just to get to home games?

For most teams, most of the time, their home form is crucial to their final league position and their home attendances crucial to their budget. I'm not belittling away support - and I agree that they deserve a hearty 'well done' for the efforts they'll make today to get to Hartlepool, but neither do I think those who cannot devote an entire day and possibly a whole load of cash on an away day should have their support deemed somehow 'inferior'.

As a loyal fan, I'm not going to the game today because in my opinion it will be very cold although I'm tempted by the offer of a good warm in B & Q. However, despite my good reason for non attendance I would like to book my spot on this board along with KC to register a complaint or comment should I deem it necessary. I may wander around a bit at home, perhaps go and watch my local team and pretend that it is just the same as the olden days watching Walsall when in reality the ambience of my surroundings does no more than remind me of how many cliches I can mention in my next post.

Here's the start of a question from my 'O' English Language paper from 1971 for those of you that love to write a good story.

'Write a story of 500 words that starts with the following:-
The world outside was dismal and sodden....................'

I will ask the Pedagogue's of this world to mark any answers and also comment on KC's use of a poor Sky Sports English when refering to the number of posters he thinks come from Bath, Bristol and Manchester along with the Arsenal's, Man Utd's and Liverpool's of this world. [I may have got the use of the ' 's ' wrong in there but I am happy to accept a whoosh if I'm wrong on the basis that I attended a Comprehensive school]

Actually, the 'Bath Saddler's of this world is me being sloppy with quotation marks, Cully. I can use ' with just a tap of a key, but with " I have to press shift also. It may have made more sense if I'd written the "Bath Saddler"s of this world etc. - there's no apostrophe, because it's a pluralisation.

I went to a comp. too. But a little after you.
