Twenty years of transormation has left us with no ground to call our own, ever increasing debts, threadbare playing squad, ever dwindling crowds and an atmosphere that makes a closed down library look buzzing in comparison. What a legacy this leech is going to leave us (if we manage to survive that long).
And still some trot out the "Bonser is our saviour" line.
It's time the average fan finally roused from their apathetic slumber and told the powers that be that enough is effing finally enough.
I have to agree with Tinno. The only consolation is, it could be worse. But it might yet be.
We aren't (yet) Rovrum, Lu-on or Grimswald but I'm not optimistic.

Confidence rose dramatically. I wasn't there, but that's what I thought from listening.
It sounded like:
Ince - patchy
Smith - much better
Gerrard - good
Taundry - hmmm
Deeney - OK
Palmer - poor (sorry, not bagging him)
Mattis / Bradley - absolutely anonymous
Nicholls - OK
Ibhere - decent
who'd I miss? Must've been anonymous!! *edit* Zaaboub - definitely not anonymous, but think he tired in 2nd half.
Davies came on for Bradley. Nice debut for the young fella. Obviously Hutch wanted to see more of him at 3-0, and was left with him when it became 3-2. Note the game changed after this sub, and Vincent going off for Swindon.

The damage was done before half time, obviously.
Hutchings has 3 days now to bring in some new faces and hopefully see one or two on the injured list return to action.
If we're not careful, we'll be in the thick of a relagation scrap this time next week.

The WM half time report said we'd have more presence in midfield if Lord Lucan and Shergar were playing there :o

How many times did the commentator say
" Palmer makes a bit of a mess of it & hoofs it up-field "
Sort of sums him up.
Admittedly he has some value as squad cover , but
I really hope that we don't offer him more cash just to keep him.

A defeat but a 2 goal comeback, can we take positives from that ?

I like the fact we appeared to put up a fight, but again we've shot ourself in the foot. We need more squad. 1 extra player will make so much difference. 2 would make a significant one.

On the positive side, Weston and Hughes are expected to be back in training on Thursday and a scan on Ricketts' hamstring has shown no damage, according to Hutchings.

Re: Swindon (A) League 1 Tuesday 27/01/09
That was one of the most flattering scorelines I can think of. We could and should have been 5-0 down at half-time and could have conceded plenty more in the second half. And this was against a very poor Swindon side.
Defensively we were dire. Danny Wilson is a shrewd manager and had quite clearly done his homework. The instruction to his players - attack our fullbacks. And boy, it worked for them. Taundry and Palmer looked like they didn't know what had hit them. Indeed, they looked like they'd never put football boots on before, let alone make a living in the third tier of English football. Manny Smith put a couple of blocks in, but was a liability again, especially at defending set-pieces. And the very worrying fact is that (give or take Boertien, who is presumably leaving us) that was probably our strongest available defence.
Constant hoofs, Bradley again looking a shadow of his former self, Jabo feeding off scraps up front , Nicholls looking totally out of his depth - it was not in any way pretty. When we put Swindon under any pressure they buckled - they're an awful side - but we were only able to do this on the rarest of occasions. Palmer had a snapshot which hit the bar, but if we'd got a point from that game it would have been an absolute travesty.
Two positives: Zaaboub got very involved and looked very dangerous in the first half; and Richard Davies looked decent when he came on (he played a lot better than Bradley had, actually).

I always thought a new manager had a good effect on a team and results!
It does with most clubs, then there is Walsall!

I couldn't disagree more. Swindon had four shots on target in the whole match - the other that didn't go in was a routine save for Clayton. Their 3-0 lead was one of the most flattering scorelines I can think of. Swindon are rubbish but our defending was absolutely hopeless, particularly Smith (out of his depth) and the full-backs (both out of position). Going forward we had a few chances - one off the line and one off the bar - and nearly snatched a point at the end when Nicholls' shot was deflected inches wide with the keeper beaten.
Hutchings has inherited a team bereft of confidence and without an inkling of how to defend as a team. Thanks, Mullen. The spirit shown in fighting back from what looked a lost cause indicates that the first of those problems may be being remedied. I really hope he can sort us out at the back, starting with getting some proper full-backs in situ.
Oh, and I agree that Richard Davies looked good.

If we are rubbish then you are truly awful. They may not have been shots but we had 2 crosses flash across goal that just needed a touch. I bet you wish you had coxy up front then you may not be heading for league 2. Give me a choice of Danny Wilson or Chris Hutchings. Hmmmmm I know who I prefer :D :D :D

Oh right 1 point at home to a team whose away record read won 1 drawn 1 lost 10.
Followed by a loss to a team that had won 1 of last 14 matches.
Not so sure of the good effect!
(I am not actually having a go at new management team, just stating that new managers often have a positive effect on results).

I see we impressed the Swindon fans then. Always good to get the opposition view I think, found this on their 'thetownend' forum..
'I am happy with the 3 points but Walsall were absolute shite and their defence resembled ours.'
