Pedagogue, jorge 14, and Pedro to lead the occupants of the Text 999 OAP stand in a rousing rendition of Chris de Burgh's "A spaceman came travelling", which briefly boosts the atmosphere and spurs the home side into 5 mins of light attacking play :)

you can hear the Text 999 OAP stand more than the Floors 2 GO most games anyway?!!

Why is it the people who sit behind the goal, whether it being upper or lower, always have a go at the Text stand for not getting behind the team when the support behind the goal is a joke anyway?

Optimistic prediction. A 2-1 win to the Saddlers. Ricketts and Nicholls to score which is the start of an unbeaten run lasting 20 games taking us into the top two and automatic promotion to the Championship.

'Sensible' prediction. A 2-1 loss. Middle of the table mediocracy awaits.

Walsall 3-4 Millwall

Walsall to be 3-0 up at half time through Nicholls Jabo & Deeney.
Mullen to tell the players to defend for the whole of the 2nd half and then they score 4 in the last 15 minutes.

Walsall 0 Millwall 0

Match abandoned after 20 minutes following riot by Walsall fans. This due to Bonsers decision to introduce a 20% B.A.T. rate to counteract the governments cut in VAT.

Decision to be later justified by a number of posters on UTS as due to the increasing number of stayaways :)

Walsall 0-3 Milwall

Poor team selection, poor tactics, reality hits home against a much superior side. Grabban 2 & kandol from them...deeney to lay the pass into kandol's feet for there 3rd, taundry sent off & palmper to play on the right wing.

For what it's worth:

Walsall
01 Ince
07 Palmer
02 Weston
05 Gerrard
27 Sansara
19 Deeney
12 Bradley
06 Hughes
17 Nicholls
09 Ibehre
10 Ricketts

Substitutes
08 Mattis, 03 Boertien, 14 Taundry, 20 Smith, 21 Gilmartin

Obviously Roberts out injured, so had to shuffle defence. Weston across to CB can't give Smith much confidence but Sansara in ahead of Boertien?? After Bradley putting in an anonymous performance against Huddersfield last week I'm surprised to see him in ahead of Mattis who is on the bench. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised in all honesty!
No Reich at all in the 16, see ya!

Truly hope I'm wrong, but the team selection is very odd IMHO. No width (even on the bench) offered through Reich or Zaboub; no centre-half cover (loan market?) could prove costly today; no replacement for Ishmel (loan market?) seems short-sighted; and as for up front, I'm not there so maybe it's Nicholls and Jabo with Ricketts in the hole (and Deeney 'marauding' down the right) but this seems unlikely. Nicholls and Deeney aren't wingers (Reich and Zaboub are); have you seen the bench?

Imagine the scenario - 0-0 or 0-1 with 20 mins to go, the fans are getting restless, bring on the new striker, erm we haven't got ANYTHING on the bench up front. I would imagine that Deeney could 'make himself a nuisance' for 20 mins, but if he's a wide-man I'm a millionaire!

The sad thing is, where are the striking options if the two 'dumper trucks' and Palmer playing hoof-ball approach doesn't work? Is Brett Ormerod available these days (I know he was on loan at Oldham earlier in the season) - at Forest last year, he looked like a clever 'Kevin Wilson-esque' performer.

I noticed that Lincoln won 5-1 last night as well (surely Schofield could make some phone-calls - though I admit that Patulea wasn't there when Schofield was).

I may be wrong, but I doubt it - I despair when I see Palmer in (no matter what) yet Reich surely won't get a new contract now.

The thing that upsets me most is that NO ONE on this website put Palmer in their ideal team - why can't the manager see what everyone else can?

Not sure if you mean squad, but there is CB cover on the bench, in the form of Manny Smith. Agree with your comments about Reich and I'm not sure what is going on with the boob.

As for up front, if last week at Huddersfield is anything to go by, it'll be Ricketts and Jabo up front with Nicholls and Deeney down the flanks first half, then Ricketts will drop into a more creative / attacking midfielder role in the second half if things aren't working with Nicholls and Deeney supporting Jabo more when we go forward in an almost 433 formation.

This actually worked for a lot of the second half as Ricketts got to use the ball effectively and we had a few nice moves, leading to decent chances - we just didn't have a finisher on the end of it to help!! :?

Jolly Johnny, you make some really valid points based on the Huddersfield game - I hope that Jimmy M shows the same insight for the game that you do!

By 'cover' at centre-back, I meant someone who could cope with the likes of Harris and Kandol. Smith is doing his best but a couple of years ago, he was playing uni football, I think! I've heard good things about the Millwall striker, Ashley Grimes, on the bench (wasn't there an AG for Luton in the 1980s!) but as I say, nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing some 'home-grown' players doing the business for the Saddlers - I just feel that the squad is more relegation material than promotion material (and I imagine, we'll end up somewhere in the middle).

Ormerod has a broken toe, the last time I looked but they normally heal in around six weeks don't they?

Thank you Ram! I have a little insight and experience of the game but I can confidently say I don't really have any knowledge of the second hand car market!!

You're right about CB cover overall. Manny Smith looked a good prospect for the reserves a season or so ago but hasn't really transformed that into pushing for a realistic first team place in the way that Scott Dann did, for example. As most others feel, we certainly need another CB as cover, although Weston can 'do a job' I suppose.

You were indeed right about Ashley Grimes at Luton in the 80s - I had him in my sticker album and a few swaps of him as well as times!!

The sooner JB holds his hands up and gets rid of Arthur Daley the better

Anyone know what the crowd was?

ANOTHER, last minute disappointment - it's like 'Groundhog Day'. Thankfully, I have lost the 'petulance of youth' where a weekend is ruined by a Walsall loss; I now have the stoicism of 'hitness' (note the alliteration). I don't know whether it was my introduction to 'The Smiths' at an early age, the fact that my two-year old has prevented me from having a decent night's sleep for about three months, the constant rain that is the English mid-winter or being born into a Walsall family that makes me feel so dour!

Oh well, ho hum, at least it's no longer a surprise.

All I need now is to bet on another horse which is leading until the last fence, when the jockey is thrown into mid-air - the metaphor that is being a Walsall fan at this moment in time.

At least it's Christmas folks (the only time of the year where alcoholics don't stand out from the crowd and aren't socially ostricised).

The choice now for the rest of Saturday is mind-numbing X-factor or something to cheer me up (Wilfred Owen poetry perhaps) - I kid you not.

I now know how Harold Pinter feels (and as for Philip Larkin, he was sent to Coventry - the irony is mind-numbing)

I apologise for the mumblings of a sad old man - oh wait, I'm 34.
