Reserves v. Oldbury United 17/9/08

Wed Sep 17, 2008 9:51 pm

Birmingham Senior Cup - Round 2

Oldbury United 0 3 Walsall Reserves

Played at Tividale F.C.

Walsall
Rene Gilmartin

Rory Wood
Manny Smith (Capt.)
Hassan Bacchus
Paul Boertien

Tom Overfield
Mark Bradley (Sam Adkins, 76 min.)
Sean Geddes
Sofiene Zaaboub

Ishmel Demontagnac
Troy Deeney

Unused Substitutes
Jordan McCourt
Jamie Patterson
Darryl Westlake
Tom Cox (gk)

Managers:- Jimmy Mullen & John Schofield

Goal Log
46th min. - 0-1 - another Ishy special! Just 17 seconds into the half, he goes past four Oldbury players as if they weren't there and then proceeds to score from outside the penalty area, just like Stevie Gerrard against Marseille, last night!
58th min. - 0-2 - a right wing cross from Overfield firmly headed home by Deeney.
63rd min. - 0-3 - Oldbury centre-back stumbles on the ball and Deeney is on hand to punish his error.

Comments:-
Saddlers well on top in 1st half and Bradley hit the post with a cracking shot in the 27th minute. The goals finally came in the second half.
Defence:- apart from one fumble, early in the second half, Gilmartin was sound. Smith, ably assisted by Bacchus was in commanding form. Wood was steady. I was a little disappointed in Boertien.
Midfield:- Overfield looked promising; Zaaboub was bone idle. In the centre, Bradley and Geddes were classy and tidy.
Attack:- usual performances from Deeney and Ishy.
All in all, a workmanlike performance against an Oldbury team that is bottom of the Midland Football Alliance.

Zaaboub bone-idle. Obviously not impressed at his reserve status. At least he played, eh?

Isn't Geddes a forward?

I think he's described as an "attacking midfield player", Luke. However, last night, he was very disciplined in his play, playing the full midfield job - I was quite impressed with him. He would find an out-and-out striker's position a little challenging as he is smaller than Ishy! :D

Is that why he does the videoing rather than the wrestling?
