Neil Ravenscroft wrote:"What surprised me most were the tactics. We were not capable of passing the ball better than an average non league team and so resorted to knocking aimless balls into the corners and down the channels to two forward that then didn't have the wit or intelligence to do anything with the ball on the rare occasion they actually got the ball."

Now, that is worrying, as is the fact that, mid season, with a couple of injuries and suspensions, and the first team could look like that, with the lack of cover we have.

No, that is standard.

Chadwick and Ayre came on (for Suffo and Bradley), nobody else. Chadwick looked comfortably the best of the three strikers used on the day, it was hard to tell that Ayre was on the pitch. Maybe he's more of a wide player than central, but on the basis of that half hour I wouldn't be looking to follow up on him.

Sounds like the best 9 quid I never spent. Must thank the friends that didn't want to come with me.

Cheers lads

It was only seven quid!

Typical pre-season fare to be honest - especially for such a hot day. I didn't really expect much more than a glorified training session when I set out - and we didn't get any more than that. We are clearly a week of two behind the curve in terms of where we should be at this stage of pre-season. Burton looked like they had players in place and were just fine tuning a team that should be right in the mix for promotion from the Conference again. We're still looking for a couple of major pieces of the jigsaw (although, in fairness, Ricketts ought to be one of those) and both the new signings we make from now on and some of our key players already in place (notably the full backs) will have a tough job going straight into the side with a very curtailed pre-season.

How we cope with the first few weeks might actually make or break this season. We've got some tough home games early on (although the away games look easier on paper). Pick up decent points in the first month of the season (with virtually a scratch side) and we could have the makings of a promotion challenge, but if we go into October without a home win then the pressure will be mounting at the other end of the table.

Cannock sat down all game and only paid £7. 8) He did a slow-motion 'slinky' too, started the game on the top row of the terraces and was on the front by half-time.
