Colchester United (a) - League - 25th January 2005

Mon Jan 24, 2005 7:07 pm

The preview is now on the front page. A team with a not very good home record, below us in the table, who are playing a big FA Cup tie next weekend? This must be a winnable game, surely?

Cue 3-0 defeat. When the only team we've beaten away is Stockport, I've not got any confidence that we can improve that record next game.

What's the formation this time? Back to 4-3-1-2, as 4-5-1 obviously didn't work on it's singular outing this season, presumably.

im going for a 0-0 or a 1-1.

Which if we are going to try to get into the top 6 is not enough.(although its probably too late anyway, 11 points is too much too claw back when you have only won once away from home).

Anyone going down?

i cant imagine any more than 200 travelling on a tuesday nite to Essex.

I'll toddle along as its under an hour for me... Part of me actually thinks we're going to win for some reason, I think I'm getting a fever.

2-1 to the Saddlers.

Jorge's goal last time we played there - very funny mix-up in the U's defence.

I could have sworn that last time we played there, we won 1-0 with a goal from Brett Angell, and we finished the match with 10 men... We then went on that dreadful away run up until the Cambridge match.

Don't worry, there's still time for the floodlights to fail.

This is the most idiotic team selection since Sheff Wed at home. What exactly does Robinson have to do to get a game? Problem: we can't score. One may imagine the answer would be to play the one striker we have who's fit and available and couldn't stop scoring when he started games.

Bloody hell...

I just hope Merson is going to compensate the 150 fans who have gone down there financially, right before he gets the sack.

Can it get any worse?

Unless we have an absolute footballing miracle surely this must convince JB that Merson is not the man for the job.

You know what? If we're not going to do a Norwich and pull back to 4-4, it may be as well if we lose about 6-0 to make it clear we have to get rid of Merson and bring this sorry era to a close. In the Graydon or Lee days, I would have gone tonight - I never even thought of doing it tonight, given the shambles of a manager/team we have right now, and i can't believe I'm the only fan taking that attitude.

Times up I think Dave, I've been very slow to criticise Merse this season, being one of the "Happy Clappers" according to Sheff (but thats another story). But this is abysmal, I've spoke to my brother who is one of the 150 who have gone down there (bravery or stupidity? You decide!), I was on the phone when they scored their fourth. It is awful, there is no shape, no passion (whats that I hear you ask?). I am now truly in the "Merson Out" group. And I can't see it not happening before Saturday. What is for sure, if Merson is there on Saturday and if we are not playing Huddersfield off the park, he won't make it through another week.

But how often have we said something like that?

Times up Paul...

Best thing i can say about this game is the half-time chatting between WM reporters on saddlersworld. Its fantastic! Great laugh and if you take the result away the best performance of the evening

I'm not normally one to advocate mass protest but I think this time enough is enough. Chanting during the game on Saturday won't do the trick as all it will do will disparage the team. Some kind of protest at full time is needed even if we do manage to win. Bonser must be made to take notice of how we all feel. If enough pressure is heaped on him then something has to give eventually. I would also agree with Ian that perhaps a good hiding tonight might not be the end of the world if it hammers a couple more nails in Merson's managerial coffin.
