Brentford (a) - League - 3rd January 2005

Sun Jan 02, 2005 7:13 pm

I thought someone had better start the thread - or is the prospect of watching two teams who have got 1 point out of the last possible 18 between them too much to bear? I've gone for 1 - 1!

How many times have we been in this position?
The team we play that have gone so many games without winning, always beat us.

But im going to be optimisic 2-0 to the saddlers

Last time I saw us at Brentford we were absolutely atrocious, it was in that run when we couldn't win away from home under Graydon...

Tomorrow I approach the game in exactly the same frame of mind, don't see us getting anything. However, the prospect of going to a ground with a pub on each corner is rather appealing as last time I went we were 1 down before I got in the ground.

1-1 or 0-1 to them. Not feeling confident at all.

I would play

Murphy
Wright Emblen McShane Bennett
Wrack Standing Kinsella Herivelto
Robinson Fryatt

or

Murphy
Wright Emblen McShane Bennett
Wrack Standing Kinsella Herivelto
Merson
Fryatt

But of course we won't.

What's this? Width? Surely he wouldn't go with the 4 4 1 1 he should have been at least trying to play away from home by now?

Actually, if I were going with the 4 4 1 1, I'd play Robinson as the lone striker (it would suit his game better than it would Fryatt's or Jorge's) and bring in Aranalde at left back and play McShane at right. They'd both be better with cover in front and we wouldn't need to attacking of Wright from right back so much, with a winger on.

Oh - and with two wingers, we could probably play Osborn and Kinsella together!

we palyed 4 in midfield at orient and it was shocking. mind you waht do you expect frm someone who has been to less games than roper this year.
wahtever we paly brentford will dick us. altho palying badly they are among the best in the div. especaly at home. they are the best at our palce this year.

And he hasn't played 4 4 1 1 in any of them, with him playing off ther lone striker, not even at Orient, where he was unavailable and went 4 4 2, but without having a left winger. No point in your going if you don't actually watch (or understand) the game, is it? That must be the case if you think Brentford were any good at Bescot, as they were bad, we were just atrocious. As for their form at the time, I'll quote the match preview:-

"Well, the good news for all is that they are complete rubbish away from home. They have played four away games and have gained only one point, that being in a 2 – 2 draw at lowly Torquay. Their other three have been at Chesterfield, Peterborough and Bristol City, and they scored 2 and conceded 10 in those three games."

We didn't even play with a right winger at Orient, we played with 4 central midfielders spread across the pitch, as I don't class Wrack as a winger.

As for Brentford being the best at our place, laughable. They were shockingly bad as Neil points out.

Agree they were awful, we were even more awful, and the game was .......... well ........... simply awful ! So what's new, we've failed to beat plenty of fairly awful teams this season.

Today I have no confidence in us getting anything at all - I can only see a home win in this one despite their fall-off in form.

So for me it's still 1 point from 4 festive-season games - a pathetic return really, and wholly self-inflicted against teams we could and should have beaten. Play-off chances chucked down the drain with barely a whimper, same old rubbish up front, no punch and no changes, no tactical substitutions (well one - Fryatt), no tactics, no chance.

Jamie Lawrence is on from the start for Brentford, Didn't Merson say that he didn't like playing against him 'cause he marked him out of the game?

Paul Ritchie just scored for Brechin, surely they can't be paying him as much as we would?

WM said both Paston and Fryatt rang in sick before the team set off this morning.
