Crewe Alexandra (H) League 1 Monday 24/3/08 .Kick Off 3pm
Hope no one objects to me dedicating this game to the late and much missed Oliver Hewitt.
Unfortunately i unable to make the match due to work commitments , but i will find time to remember a very special young man , last season many UTS ers met at the wall of fame before the Accrington game to pay tribrute to Oli hopefuly the same will happen this year.
Form guide Crewe last 6 league games.
Carlisle - home - lost 0-1
Northampton - away - drew 0-0
Notts Forest - home - drew 0-0
Port Vale - home - lost 0-2
Gillingham - away - won 3-0
Hartlepool - home- won 3-1
Alex are sitting 4 points clear of the drop zone on 40 points from 38 games , a game we simply must win for no better reason than for Oli.
Prediction 2-0 home win and a big wave from DD. :D

That time of year already? Time's flying by!
A must-win game. If we win at Leeds we'll draw this, if we lose or draw at Leeds we'll win it. That's my theory.

I think we'll win.
A 2-0 win, one in each half.
Gerrard header, and a stefan moore goal from a mooney flick.

Crewe have won the last couple, and are beginning to score goals again [6 in the last 2], with Maynard in particular in good form.
We, on the other hand, are struggling to score and are prone to defensive 'lapses' - naming no names.
2-0 defeat, but we will have 60% plus possession.

Big and clumsy, just the bloke you need in their penalty area when you've got a corner in the last minute of injury time...
I think the play-offs are slipping away, however :(

Play offs slipped away in January. Like many said.
What an awful home result. I was praying that when I logged on I would see a 3-0 win or something, but this is a major disappointment.
Its interesting to see the lack of Bonser support.
Im gutted.

Re: Crewe Alexandra (H) League 1 Monday 24/3/08 .Kick Off 3pm
Roper was lucky to still be on the pitch by half time, clattering challenge in the first few minutes kicking the Crewe guy about 2 feet in the air followed in the next 10 - 15 minutes by mistimed challenge after mistimed challenge. The ref eventually took him to one side and the message then was clear - one more and you're off. That seemed to calm him down a bit.
On to the game itself, the defence looked reasonably solid with the exception of the goal and a couple of other chances.
Dobson had one of his better games but Betsy (or should that be Betty?) had another ineffectual match before being substituted along with Wrack.
Up front Mooney flattered to deceive, admittedly he didn't have much service until Deeney and Nicholls came on (both of whom did very well I might add)
From the point when we made the first two substitions it looked like there would only be one winner, we were bombarding the Crewe area but then went 1 down from a breakaway - all credit to Crewe though, good turn and shot gave Clayton no chance. After this it seemed like it wasn't going to be our day until Roper scored with virtually the last kick (head) of the match. From my viewpoint the ball appeared to cross the line in slow motion.
Although we are only two points from the play offs realistically I feel we now need to build for next season in this league, just looks a step too far now. I hope I'm wrong but we have left ourselves too much to do.

Game of two halves for the bloke. First half, I thought he'd be lucky to stay on the pitch. Second half he was much improved generally, and I was pleased he got the goal.
Mentions also for Weston (the crowd's choice for MoM), Gerrard (official MoM) and Dobson - all of whom I thought played particularly well.
Our lack of options up front is frightening. Is it three goals now in the last five games? That won't fire us into the play-offs.
We kept going until the end, so credit for that, but with expectations having been raised in January, where there was realistic talk of automatic promotion, a last gasp draw at home against fifth from bottom is hardly ticker-tape parade material.

Play off's????? Were we really talking about play off's just a few weeks ago? Thank God we've got over 50 points, the last few matches I've seen are nothing more than relegation performances. We are utterly devoid of any plan, application and will-to-win. Oh well, at least Money has been proven right, we were completely punching above our weight. Crap team selections, bizarre tactics and awful signings have made sure of that. Apart from that all is fine.
Oh yeah, to the old bloke in front of me in NM2, sorry for having an opinion like, and I WILL still continue to attend (FFS, compared to the prat behind me I was all but a happy clapper).

Re: Crewe Alexandra (H) League 1 Monday 24/3/08 .Kick Off 3pm
If anything, all this match highlighted was our pathetic (non-existent?) strike force. Last 6 games:-
v. Northampton - no goals
v. Brighton - centre-back, up for a setpiece
v. Forest - own goal
v. Leeds - no goals
v. Crewe - centre-back, up for a set piece
Total contribution from our strikers and midfield = NIL
Instead of rabbiting on about Roper, let's look at our strikers and midfield players - pathetic. Bradley and Taundry should return to strengthen the midfield but who is going to score? I cannot believe that there isn't a striker at a Premier League or Championship club who wouldn't fancy a run of first team football with us - with an outside chance of a Wembley appearance.
Get someone in urgently, please, Dicky!
(and they had better be an improvement on Moore, Betsy and N'Dour!)

Do you reckon Moore will ever play for us again? I certainly hope not. Another (in the increasingly) long line of DD's "Why the hell did we sign him?" players.
