Reserves v. Rushall Olympic 16/1/08

Tue Jan 15, 2008 10:17 pm

Cheer up, guys 'n' gals! We may be out of the F.A. Cup but we're still in the big one - the Birmingham Senior Cup!

Pop along to Dales Lane and see the quarter-final. Support the Saddlers while helping the finances of Walsall's senior non-League club. The k.o. is 7-45 p.m. The weather forecast is o.k. for Wednesday so the game should go ahead.

Just to add to the atmosphere - Rushall play in the Dingles' colours!

If you have to ask that, you can't afford it. :)

Save for a curtain pole...or some cardboard to stick over the window. ;)

Rushall Olympic 1 0 Walsall

Birmingham Senior Cup (Quarter-Final)

Walsall (4-4-2)

Joel Skeldon

Charlton Davies
Manny Smith
Ian Roper
Netan Sansara

Martin Brittain (Richard Davies, 79 mins.)
Michael Dobson
David McDermott
Paul Boertien

Chris Hanna
Dexter Ravenhill (Cameron Jones, 65 mins.)

Unused Substitutes:-
Jamie Silver
Hassan Bacchus
Tom Cox (gk)

Managers- Jimmy Mullen & Eric McManus (watched by Dicky Dosh)

Goal log:-
1st minute - Roper and Skeldon get into a muddle to let the ball roll into an unguarded net, after only 50 seconds. Niki Preston claimed the goal but, really, it was the lack of understanding between keeper and centre-back which caused the goal.

Sinner:-
59 min. - Hanna sent off for serious foul play - a wild lunging, two-footed tackle.

Comment:-
The Pics were good value for their half-time lead against a lethargic looking Saddlers line-up. However, the visitors were well in control in the second period. The disturbing feature was the total failure to trouble the Rushall 'keeper, admittedly not helped by Hanna's (deserved) dismissal. McDermott worked very hard and was the pick of the Walsall side but it is clear that no-one is challenging for a first team spot, apart, possibly, from Smith. Dobson did little and Boertien showed his skill only in flashes. Brittain was also disappointing. Rushall will be away to Burton Albion in the semi-final while the Dingles and the Bluenoses contest the other semi-final.

We desperately, desperately need another striker (or a guarantee that Mooney and Ricketts will play regularly for the rest of the season).

another disappointing cup result , positives good to see Dobson and Boertien play the full 90minutes and intersting to see the later playing in a midfield role.

Hi

Went last night The walsll gk was rarely challenged and the pitch looked very heavy to the point where the bootswere sticking in the soft grass. Dobson was very dissapointing as was Britainn. McDermott works hard but will not pass a ball tries to twist and turn instead of playing a simple game.
Thought the latter part of the game much livlier and that walsall were the better team. Roper is possibly losing confidence Smith had a good game as did the others who arnt mentioned above. Where was Bossua

Just think, if McKeown hadn't been so impatient and greedy then, with the (rumoured) Bossu situation he could be playing regular reserve team football for us, sitting on the bench for the first team on Saturday and having every chance of becoming the next of our promising kids to break into the first team (if anything happened to Ince) and be offered a lucrative long-term contract if he proved himself. Instead of being about 8th choice at Peterborough and having no chance of moving forwards due to the £400k keeper they've brought in this month.

Bossu was injured - keep up man. As for Dobson , I hope they he do much - don't want him injured again in a meaningless fixture. That was just match practice.

To be fair, McKeown has been on the bench for Posh since they signed their new keeper.
