Shrewsbury Town (H) F-A Cup Ist Round Saturday 10/11/07.

Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:52 am

No need for a form guide as this is The F-A Cup , league status and form means very little , Suprise results will happen but not at Banks's Staduim.
The super Saddlers will march on to round 2 and another home tie.

Walsall 2-1 Shrewsbury

An entertaining 2-2 draw. I don't know why, but there you go.

I think it will be a tight game, but we will win 2-1. Ricketts and Sonko.

As befits a brand new ground, it's clean and smart (in fact, everything that the old Gay Meadow wasn't!) but, because the corners are open, the wind whistles through it and it's bloody chilly! The refreshments leave a lot to be desired, as well. The staff seem friendly and helpful. It's got bags of parking space and is dead easy to get to, by car. It could do with its own railway station, next to it, though.

I can tell you're our reserve team correspondent.

There's absolutely no parking at the ground or anywhere near the ground on a matchday, despite there being hundreds of spaces. Park and ride is what you're told to do as an away fan, with parking sites around the town. You're correct on the bleak and characterless image you create though.

As for Saturday's game, they'll be looking to revive their season and I expect them to be well up for it. We should have enough to see the win through though and I think we'll win 2-0 with Ricketts and Ishmel scoring.

Will Ricketts play in the cup match. Isnt it normal that loan players are refused permission to play as they may be needed by their host club later on in the competition. I may stand corrected ,as I have just returned from holiday and was amazed to find out that we have signed Michael on loan from Oldham.

Oldham have given permission for Ricketts to play.

Seven us coming along for this one and having not seen the Saddlers win this season hoping I'm not a bad omen.
Should be a good atmosphere I wonder how many they will bring with them.
Anyway I think Ricketts will bag his first gioal for us and I'm going a 2-1 win in front of a crowd of 6,231.

DD says in the Express and Dingle he thinks there will be 8,000-10,000

Can't see there being that many, FA Cup 1st round crowds are nowhere near what they used to be, eventhough it is a local derby. Still you never know

I*'ll just be glad to get through, the thought of losing to these scummers doesn't bear thinking about :?

We got 8,345 against them on Boxing Day last season. That's the absolute maximum I can see us getting this time round (third home game in three Saturdays, not on non-early bird season tickets, not on Boxing Day, we're not top of the league). I'd be surprised if we don't get more than 6,000 though. I'd expect Shrewsbury to sell out most of the away end (2,000-odd?) plus a few extras in our end from the Cheltenham game (say 4,500 home fans for that one). So, call it 6,500-7,000.
