Youth Team v. Burton Albion (A) - Midland Youth Cup 8/10/07

Mon Oct 08, 2007 11:16 pm

Midland Youth Cup - Round Two

Burton Albion 1 5 Walsall
(played at the Pirelli Stadium)

Walsall (4-4-2)
Tom Cox

Jamie Silver
Dan Schwarz
Tom Schwarz
Hassan Bacchus

Cameron Jones (Stuart Hendrie, 71 min.)
Richard Davies (Capt.)
Sam Adkins (Mark Lowe, 75 min.)
Ed Ryan

Josh Craddock (Alan Wilkes, 67 min.)
Rory Curtis

Unused Substitutes:-
Daryl Westlake
Joel Skeldon (gk)

Manager:- Mick Halsall (assisted by Bill Jones)

Goal Log:-
54 min. - 0-1 - A super 25 yard shot from skipper Davies.
57 min. - 0-2 - Glancing header from Curtis puts the visitors in the driving seat.
74 min. - 0-3 - A through ball from Hendrie sends Wilkes clear to slot home with his RIGHT foot (a real collector's item!).
78 min. - 1-3 - Daniel Mason pulls back a consolation goal, with a fine shot from the edge of the penalty area, on a rare Burton attack.
82 min. - 1-4 - An excellent cross-field ball, from Hendrie, finds Lowe unmarked to head home and restore Walsall’s 3 goal advantage..
90+1 min. – 1-5 – Lowe grabs his second of the night to complete the scoring in stoppage time.

Comments:-
Holders, Walsall, continued their defence of their crown in the smart surroundings of the Pirelli Stadium. They missed their chance to take a 20th minute lead when the ever-dangerous Ed Ryan was tripped in the Brewers' penalty area. However, Dan Schwarz drove an underhit penalty far too close to 'keeper,Daniel Halton. Halton was his side's hero as the young Saddlers repeatedly carved open the home defence.
The second half followed the same pattern save that once the Saddlers breached the home defence then the floodgates opened. Indeed, had it not been for Halton’s heroics, this could easily have been a double-figures rout.

Thanks for the report as always Leamore. It is disappointing to note I cannot find the result let alone a short report on the Official site. Without your excellent efforts we would have little idea of the progress of the youth team in retaining the cup they won last term.

Probably still waiting for PTV to upload the report. When's that godawful contract ever going to end?!
