Well I have never started a match thread before!! Will be at the Grove tonight and will hopefully post a report around 10.00pm. Hoping to see Carlos the Jackal have a longer run out.

Is that offer of a pre-match cuppa still open, Mike? :D :D I bet that you wished WFC played more often at the Grove, eh?

On the O/S Money says he is hoping to give Dann and Gerrard a full run out tonight, he will be looking at Mannie Smith at right back position, and said Alex Nicholls, Deeney, Bradley and McDermott will be give much needed time on the pitch. That's pretty much word fro word from the OS, so make of that what you will!
My *guess* is...
assuming Bradley and Mcdermott are playing in midfield, possibly expect triallist Sonko to play on one wing, either Sonner or Dobbo in C mid with either Bradley or McDermott, triallist Boertain at left back, with Carneiro and either Butler or Mooney playing some part in the match.
Mannie Smith looked good at Worcester at centre half, it'll be interesting to see what he's like with a someone running at him.
**Edit, just read Cheesebags comment above. Looks like I picked the wrong game to watch then :(

Yes Leamore. Will be leaving home approx 7.00pm. (Unless you can give us a lift there then we can leave at 7.15pm  )
One sugar or two in the cuppa ?

Was going to start a thread on the All About Walsall forum until i had a look at this one.
Just to keep you happy Dave
I love to read match threads more so on game i don't go to , it just gets a bit tiresome wading through 3 threads on the same match . :o

Well you can ignore anything DickyDosh says on the oficial site. No Dann or Gerrard or Deeney - not even Carlos. Full team : Bossu; Taundry;Smith;Doran; Sansara; Nichols; Bradley; Pedro; Ishy; Junior and McDermott.
Final Score 2-0 with goals from Bradley in the 71st minute following mazy run and lovely cross from Ishy with Bradley arriving late to score with a header a la Martin Peters. Second goal from Alex Nichols with a low left shot across the keeper having been put through by Mark Bradley in the 73rd minute.
Fairly low key game and we struggled at times against a Halesowen side who tried to play football and keep it on the floor. I thought Mannie at times tried to play too much at the back and got caught out a couple of times but Doran looked strong and competed well. Sansara looked composed and linked up well with Ishy - who was well, Ishy!!
We looked very lightweight up front in the first half with Alex playing wide right and McDermott through the middle but they switched positions in the second half and it worked better. Have to say not too impressed with Junior or Pedro and would be surprised if they were offered contracts.
Bossu safe and commanding but Mark Bradley probably the pick of the young side and looked ready to provide a serious challenge for one of the central midfield slots.

Cheers for that Mike, good news on Bradley, maybe he'll be our very own player x

Yep thanks Mike. I was very impressed with Bradley a couple of seasons ago and I'm surprised he's not been tried more. I think he will this season, even though the moaners want more youth and pace in the slow midfield and the same people want us to try young players, they ignore the fact Bradley could make a big impact this season. ;)

I thought Junior looked good holding the ball up and laying it off, tried very hard. but not going to be a prolific goalscorer. (Like Sam really)
Not having been to a pre season friendly in all my years but my in laws live in Halesowen so thought I would give it a go. Quite a pleasant evening in the sunshine but I couldnt help thinking of Barnstoneworth United . . .
Who else was there off here?

I watched the match with Leamore Saddler who will no doubt post his normal excellent report in due course. I thought Junior worked hard and indeed held the ball up well at times but there doesn't seem to be enough about his game to make it worthwile to take him on. Not for me anyway but as they say it is only my opinion

Was very impressed with the young lads tonight. First half was a bit slow, but second half was worth watching.

I have never met Leamore but whilst perusing the small crowd I noticed a tall grey haired gentleman who seemed to me to have the demeanour of an ex school teacher. He was standing with three other men one of whom smoked a fag and another a cigar in the second half. Was this Leamore? :?
May have been standing near MMF. Cant be sure as he wasnt eating anything. MMF did u have a Nationwide top on?

Believe it or not I am going to give a fairly positive assessment of the game tonight. I thought Bossu looked composed and steady, the back four were shaky at times, with my pick going to the young scouse lad Doran(who played centre half). Bradley looked a class act, especially first half, always wanting the ball no matter which Halesowen 'clod hopper' was behind him. The lad Pedro had loads of energy but lacked quality. I thought Nicholls looked superb when he switched from the wing(Nicholls is definitley not a winger). I thought Junior had a good touch but I am not sure whether he is the answer. Ishy looked bright and breezy but his temprement worries me somewhat.
I thought the young lads did very well against a side only 3 levels below our first team.
Bradley, Doran and Nicholls were the pick for me.

They worked when you "met" me.
Or was that down to the Walsall shirt my son was wearing, with "Roe" embalzoned on the back? :D
